Something Else Money Can't Buy

People say that money can't buy happiness, and the Beatles famously sang, "Money can't buy me love." The ability to avoid service is something else money can't buy, but it doesn't stop people from trying. Even famous people and people in positions of power are served papers for various reasons, and many of them go to great lengths to avoid service.


The December 29, 2011 issue of the Peoria Times ran a story about Judge Phillip Woolbright, the justice of the peace for the Arrowhead Justice Court. According to the Times, in March, 2011 a private process server made several attempts to serve Woolbright papers at his residence, but was not successful. The process server also attempted service at the Northwest Regional Court Facility, where Woolbright holds his court proceedings. One morning the process server spotted Woolbright's vehicle in the public parking lot of the building. Process Serving True Story

I received 3 papers to serve on 3 defendants - a man, his wife, and on the construction business they owned, where the husband was the Registered agent. The original address provided turned out to be the defendants' former residence. The attorney was unable to offer any other addresses, so I did some investigation to locate a second address and vehicle information on the defendants. When I attempted service at the second address I found it was a model home in a subdivision being developed by the defendants I was attempting to serve.  


Out of luck again, I was preparing to head back home when I decided to stop at a Casey's Convenience store for a fountain drink. While in the checkout line I noticed that the man in front of me appeared to be about the same age and fit the general description of the man I was trying to serve. I hurriedly paid for my soda and went to my truck.
