FACC in Florida received fifteen student visitors from Aalto University, a Finnish University formed by combining various faculties into single organization 2010.

The visit on May 31st at Lake Worth May was hosted by the Honorary Consul Peter J. Makila and the President of the FACC-FL, Lena Hartikainen. The students received an information package regarding the  history of Finns in Lake Worth and South Florida area as well as important tips and information regarding working and studying in USA.  

Many also expressed interest towards the student exchange program operated by CIMO and promoted by FACC. 

Economic news from Florida

- Gas prices: down from the average price of $3.86 to $3.64

- Home Values: prices lowest since fall 2002(Standard &Poor's Index) 

- Economic Attitude: FL Consumer index fell from 68 in May to 66 in June. National index went from 61.7 in May to 58.5 in June  

- Tourism: Palm Beach County taxable sales up 6.2 percent from April 2010 to April 2011.

BUSINESS LEADERS IN PALM BEACH BRAINSTORMING A BETTER COUNTY 

More than 100 business, civic and government leaders discussed a plan to improve life in Palm Beach County and make the county more attractive to businesses and new residents. The results will be presented by the Economic Council at the Future of Florida Forum in Orlando later this year. Read more here.

THE LARGEST SINGLE TYCO INTERNATIONAL FACILITY IN THE WORLD TO BOCA RATON, FLORIDA

The electronic security and fire protection company dedicated its new 171,500 square-foot facility in the city Monday morning.The company plans to create 100+ new jobs over the next few years.
700 current employees will move from its previous office building near the Boca Raton Town Center mall, to the new building at the corner of Yamato Road and Military Trail. Read more here. 

TWO CANADIAN COMPANIES MOVING TO FLORIDA

Toronto Sky Aviation Inc. (TSA), operating as Aircraft Armature Inc., and UCC Steelwork Connections Inc. Together, the two companies will add approximately 110 jobs to the Aerospace and Manufacturing industries in Florida. Read more here.

News From Finland

LAS VEGAS WATCH OUT FINLAND IS FLYING ANGRY!

Maybe its not casinos, but the Finnish game industry is flying strong with Angry Birds leading the way. In 2010 the industry's turnover topped the 100 million euro figure, according to the Finnish Games Industry 2010-2011 study. The study predicts that the games industry's aggregate turnover will grow to 165 million euros during 2011.  Neogames expects Finland's games industry to become in turnover terms the largest games industry in the Nordic area during 2011. There is demand for Finnish expertise in the mobile industry in the US. Finnish companies operating in the games industry have already gained a strong foothold, although other companies in the sector also have lots to offer. FINNISH WIRELESS COMPANY OPENS US HEADQUARTERS IN AKRON, OHIO 

A Finnish start-up company which specialties in wireless technology for the healthcare industry is opening its US headquarters in Akron, Ohio.
The company expects to create about 30 jobs in Akron over the next two years. More here.
