On campuses across the U.S., universities welcome new students with an abundance of activities, orientations, recruitment opportunities for clubs, jobs, and more. And, that's not counting going to classes!

An Open House will be held during both Preview weekends on Friday, April 20 and Friday, April 27, 1-2PM in the Pace Center student lounge on the 2nd floor of Frist.

Help us reach our goal of 1,000 Facebook "likes" by May 1 and learn more about the Pace Center and how you can be civically engaged!

 

How? "Like" the Pace Center page, post on our wall, or "check-in" by April 20, and your name will be entered into a drawing. With a maximum of one post and one check-in per day, we will "score" your hits in this way: 

  • 1x for initial like
  • 2x for every post
  • 5x for every check-in

Volunteer Tour Guides Needed, University Medical Center

April 11 - 22 

 

Princeton HealthCare System, in preparation for the Medical Center's impending move, is looking for Princeton student volunteers to assist with tours for employees, physicians and volunteers at its new facility. As a Tour Ambassador, volunteers will guide participants to ensure a positive experience. Volunteers are needed for 2-hours shifts on weekdays, 7:00 am - 11:00 pm and weekends, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm on weekends.

Breakout Leader Info Session and Trip Proposal Workshop

Breakout Princeton is holding an information session for prospective trip leaders. Breakout student coordinators will be on hand to answer questions about how to create and write an effective trip proposal for the upcoming deadline for fall 2012 trips. USG Hosting Clash of the Colleges: It's Time to Serve 

Month of April    

 

One hour of service equals one point for your college. The winning college will get a trophy, a free party, cake, refreshments, and a banner to sign and publicly display. The top five students who complete the greatest number of hours in the winning college will be awarded a personal trophy. Volunteers Needed: Princyclopedia 

Saturday, April 14 

 

Princyclopedia is a grand-scale (5000+ kids!) children's  literacy event put on each year by Firestone's Cotsen Children's Library. During this event, a children's story is brought to life, and this year the story is Robin Hood!

 

Volunteers are needed to keep company wiht the children and to help children with activities related to the theme. Volunteers are also needed for setup and cleanup. Shifts are 10 am -12:30 pm and 12:30-3 pm Please contact Kimberley Freid at kfreid@princeton.edu for more information.

 

Community Action

Apply to be a CA Leader

Community Action is a student-led pre-orientation program for the freshman class sponsored by the Pace Center for Civic Engagement. The program involves a week of volunteer service based on a community immersion experience that allows participants and leaders to live in or near their community service work area. CA is now accepting leaders for CA 2012.

Leading from Within: Educating Girls and Empowering Communities

Thursday, April 19, 5:00 - 6:30 pm

The Kakenya Center for Excellence (KCE) is a non-profit organization focused on serving the most vulnerable and underprivileged girls in Kenya. Founded by Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya in 2008, the organization has built the first primary school for girls in Enoosaen, Kenya that focuses on academic excellence, female empowerment, leadership, and community development. Hear Dr. Ntaiya, along with Ellyn Ito, director of Seeds to Sew International, tell their story of making a "dream" a reality for these young women.

Class of 1961 Foundation Seeking Community Service Project Proposals

Proposal deadline: Rolling

 

The Class of 1961 Foundation seeks proposals from undergraduates and faculty who are interested in implementing a community service project, in the fields of education, health, or the environment, in the U.S. or outside the U.S. Proposals must meet the Class' goal of "...making a meaningful contribution to the people and habitat of the country and the world in a manner that reinforces the value of the Princeton experience." Class of 1961 members are a fundamental component of a project but are not required in developing and submitting a proposal. (Identification and selection of '61 involvement will be the responsibility of the Foundation.)
