President's Corner
The Montclair State University community is my extended family. When someone who obviously does not share our values breaks the tranquility of our campus, our family, everyone should be outraged. I am proud at the show of support for GLBTQ students, faculty and staff from all corners of our community. Everyone feels threatened when there is clearly someone who does not share our values in our midst. I am confident that we will identify whoever did this and will bring them to justice.
The Montclair State University community is now very large and continues to grow. We have almost 19,000 students and 2000 faculty and staff from the President and her administration, on down through the teaching faculty, to Professional Staff at all levels, maintenance staff, secretaries and laborers. I think this is a good time to reflect on how we treat each other in our every day interactions. Do we say good morning to the people who clean our halls and empty the trash? Do we let those Professional Staff that work in our departments, recreation facilities, Registrar and Admissions know that we all value their efforts? When we see someone that clearly is lost, do we take the time to help them to wherever they want to go? While we are thinking about the gross incivilities, we should also look at our everyday interactions making sure that there is no corner of our community that is invisible or not appreciated.
It is all of our interactions, large and small that will put this incident behind us and let the world know that our community will not stand for intolerance on any level. I look forward to seeing you all in the Quad on Tuesday. I will be one of, I hope a 1000 strong of our family feeling good about our values and interactions.
In solidarity,
Rich
