Insuring Your Student's Home Away from Home

When students go off to college, they usually take their computers, TVs, stereo equipment, most of their wardrobe, and anything else they can cram into their car.  Whether they're taking all their worldly possessions or just enough to get by, they'll need insurance to cover the things in their dorm room or apartment.  Be sure they're covered
by your homeowner's insurance or a separate renter's policy.

As our former South Burlington employees settle into their new Williston location at Route 2A and Knight Lane, we are moving toward fully adopting the Kinney Pike Insurance name throughout all of our offices.  Most of you will notice no change, but some of our newer clients will be hearing from us more with quarterly e-newsletters, like this Kinney Pike Report.

We will be officially changing our name to Kinney Pike Insurance, effective October 1, 2012.  Our signs are being changed to reflect this, and all correspondence will be sent out with the new Kinney Pike name.  Please share this update with anyone at your location who may be affected by this.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Client Spotlight - WCAX Television

WCAXTelevision first came to Vermont on September 26, 1954, when WCAX-TV became the first television station to begin airing local programs from its studio located on Barrett Street in Burlington.  Actually, WCAX began broadcasting its test pattern on September 7 of that year and received over 200 letters from excited and anxious viewers telling us how happy they were that Vermont was going to have a station of its own.  A station that was, and still is, locally owned and operated by one family.

WCAX-TV began as WCAX Radio at the University of Vermont's College of Agriculture.  It was used to distribute information to farmers from its outreach program, the Extension Service.  Hence the CAX (College of Agriculture eXtension) call letters.

WCAX-TV's tower is located atop Mount Mansfield, the tallest peak in Vermont and the ideal site for a television tower.  Construction of the tower on this site also meant construction of everything else, including the road!  But, two hurricanes not withstanding, WCAX's transmitter was built and the station began transmitting on September 11, 1954.  Two of the original programs that we broadcast back in 1954 are still on the air today.  "You Can Quote Me," a local news program which airs Sundays at 11:00 am and "Across the Fence," a local farm and home program that airs Monday through Friday at 12:10 pm.

WCAX-TV's main studio is located at 30 Joy Drive in South Burlington.  We operate four news bureaus, Montpelier (est. in 1964), Rutland (1967), Plattsburgh, NY (1973) and our Upper Valley bureau in West Lebanon, NH (2002).  With our state-of-the-art satellite truck and electronic news-gathering truck, and with our owned and operated microwave system, WCAX-TV brings news from the remote areas of our viewing area.

WCAX-TV takes pride in our ability to keep pace with the increasingly complex technological advances being made in television today.  From the early days of black and white to our full-color conversion in 1969, WCAX-TV has been the leader in the local marketplace for utilizing current technology to serve our viewers.

WCAX-TV continues to lead the way in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire.  Today, WCAX-TV is available in widescreen high definition and standard definition, and we also offer 24-hour weather information on our secondary digital channel, Weather 3.2.

Community Corner

Kinney Pike employees spend a lot of time in and around the community -- both as your neighbor and representing the company.  Community service is about helping others in the community where we work and live, rather than simply writing a check to a local non-profit.

What a busy summer of events!  Thanks to everyone who stopped by our new booth!  It was great to meet some new neighbors and say hello to our clients.

If you use Facebook, watch for a special promotion we will be having with the Vermont Foodbank this fall.  "Like" Kinney Pike on Facebook in October, and Kinney Pike will donate $1 to Vermont Foodbank for every new "like" (up to $250)!

Event Drawing Winners:
July 14 - The Prouty - A $100 donation to the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center was made on behalf of Sue Beaulieu of Windsor, VT
August 11 - The Point to Point - A $200 donation to the Vermont Foodbank was made on behalf of Peter Allison of Hartland, VT
