Client Spotlight - Castleton Community Seniors, Inc.

The aging of the U.S. population is one of the major public health challenges we face in the 21st century.  As the population ages, there will be increased need for community based elder services that improve the quality of life for older adults.  Physical activity, social interactions and intellectual stimulus enable older adults to improve their physical functioning so they need less assistance and can avoid depression or cognitive decline.  To address these issues, the Castleton Community Seniors Inc. provides transportation, nutrition and fitness programs that assist older adults in leading independent, active and meaningful lives.Castleton Community Center

Transportation is a major stumbling block in becoming socially engaged. Their van service provides over 5,000 rides annually for older adults who are unable to drive, or cannot access fixed-route public transportation, so they can connect to their community.

Older adults living alone, without the stimulation of social interaction, often lose the incentive to prepare healthy, nourishing meals and are more subject to illness and depression. They host a senior meals site and assist in the delivery of 4,000+ home delivered "meals on wheels" to help seniors access well balanced, nutritious meals.

Through their evidence-based wellness classes, the Castleton Community Center makes a real impact on older adults' health, helping them to eat better, exercise more, reduce pain, prevent falls, and manage chronic disease.  Participants report learning new facts and information that they use to make real changes in their lives to improve their own health.

Community Corner

Kinney Pike employees spend a lot of time in and around the community -- both as your neighbor and representing the company.  Community service is about helping others out in the community where we work and live, rather than simply writing a check to a local non-profit.
