Tonight, I'll tell you a story of an average girl, who happens to be me, who went from

being a wallflower to a confident young woman utilizing her full potential. My story shows how a Trinity education brings out the full potential in any average girl or boy.

 

If you look at athletes like soccer star Mia Hamm or alpine ski champion Lindsey

Vonn, they didn't become successful through their talent alone. They had coaches who pushed them to work on their weaknesses in order to maximize their strengths.

 

I'm not an Olympic athlete, but four years at Trinity was like four years of Olympic-level training for my brain. For instance, I couldn't just read Plato. I learned to publicly defend my interpretations of philosophers like Plato and Aristotle in front of my peers and my teacher every day in Humane Letters.

I was required to study subjects like Calculus and Latin, that, going into Trinity, I thought I incapable of mastering. But, I applied myself and I listened to my coaches - who were my teachers - and I ended up excelling in these subjects.

The following alumni will begin teaching at Trinity School at River Ridge this coming school year:  Nick Fox ('01), Lanita Gaworski ('05) and Jake Olson ('04).

 

They join their fellow alumni faculty members:  Aaron Bonnema ('99), Andrew Gaylord ('98), Beth Schmitz (01'), Jeff Showalter ('95), Jennifer (Huebner) Soriano ('94), John Stauble ('98) and Paul Zimmel ('99).    

 

Class Notes

 

1999 

David Rosener graduated with a Bachelors in Science from UW Stout on May 14, 2011 and started a new job as a Consulting Engineer with Heartland Business Systems on May 24, 2011.

 

2001  

Chas & Rosie (Springer) Dalske welcomed a baby boy, Emmett Miles, on April 26, 2011. 

 

Katie Kieffer was hired in June as a weekly columnist for TownHall.com. Her editorial column appears on Mondays.

 

Tom Loome spent the last two years teaching math in Somalia. In late August he plans to live in Oman, Yemen, where he will continue to teach math at The Sultan's School.

 

2003   

Heidi Althoff and Doug Forbes were married on June 4, 2011.

 

Joseph Doran received his Masters degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Tufts University in May, 2011.


Christine Long
and Peter Gaffney (Greenlawn '01) will be married on July 16, 2011, at Mary Mother of the Church in Burnsville, MN.

 

Kathleen Wacker and Matt Otremba ('92) were married on July 7, 2011.

 

2005 

Lanita Gaworski received her Masters degree in Chemistry from

Boston University in May 2011 and will join the faculty of Trinity School at River Ridge in August 2011.

 
 

John Lodoen received his Masters degree in Accounting from Belmont University, Nashville in May 2011 and will begin working at PricewaterhouseCoopers in August 2011.

 

2006

Emily Barrett graduated from the University of Minnesota this spring and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force on May 20. She will start training in October and will be stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

Captain Peter Barrett, '99, commissioned his sister Emily at a ceremony at the University of Minnesota.

 

2011    

Matt Chalberg, recipient of the 2011 John R. Buri Distinguished Athlete Award, shot an even-par 72 in his second round to win the Minnesota Class A high school boys' golf individual championship. The tournament was held at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minnesota on Thursday, June 16.
