We hope that your Autumn is off to a great start!
With the school year having started, and Sing for Hope's educational outreach program beginning in a few weeks, we focus this month's newsletter on the Teaching Artists and curriculum that bring Art U! to life!
Art U! exposes under-resourced students to five distinct art forms (visual, written word, music, drama, and dance) and investigates how each of those artistic disciplines can be a catalyst for social change. Classes with resident Teaching Artists are complemented by visits with guest Volunteer Artists in an exploration of art's power to transform lives and communities.
Read on to learn about our partner schools, teachers, Teaching Artists, curriculum plans, and ways for you to get involved!

After three years as a Teaching Artist with Sing for Hope, I recently transitioned into the role of Art U! Coordinator. It's been an exciting evolution for me to lead Art U! and evaluate how we can improve upon our programming. This year, Art U! will be bringing arts and activism to eleven sites throughout New York City. To learn more about what my team and I have been up to, click here.

Spotlight on New Art U! Campus: Harlem Village Academy High School

Sing for Hope expands to East Harlem
| | Sing for Hope Teaching Artist Alice Mizrachi at Harlem Village Academy |
This year, Sing for Hope is partnering with Harlem Village Academy High School to run an Art U! after-school program. Harlem Village Academy is a public charter school located in East Harlem with a track record of success. The school values "Community, Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Leadership, and Effort" (which form the acronym CIRCLE). The Art U! curriculum will offer students the opportunity to explore these values through various artistic disciplines. Sing for Hope's Alice Mizrachi will lead the program at Harlem Village Academy with the rest of our Teaching Artist team visiting throughout the year to present their artistic disciplines to students in the program. Principal Laurie Warner and her staff have been very welcoming and enthusiastic. We can't wait to start the Art U! program at this campus in October! Special thanks to Dr. Doug Reeves and The Leadership and Learning Foundation for underwriting this Art U! residency!
