Greetings!

The Investment Management team is planning to release a new version of the Investment Management standard in July 2010. This email asks for your views on the proposed changes to the existing Investment Logic Map (ILM) format.

Why did I get this email?

You are currently included as a participant in shaping edition 4 of the Investment Management standard. You opted to participate and now have the opportunity to comment upon and suggest what changes might be made.

The need for change

The sole purpose of an ILM is to allow a reader to easily understand the logic underpinning a proposed, or actual investment. The existing format (v3.5) does not allow a reader to track the logic from the Problem, the strategic response to the Problem (Strategic Interventions), through to how this response translates into a set of actions (the Solution).

To overcome this we have developed four formats. These are attached.

The reasons we prefer this over the existing (3.5) and the alternative formats is that it:

Clear line of sight between Problem - Interventions - Solution
Provides a clear link between a problem, benefit and KPI
Reduced duplication by listing Benefits only once
Improved ability to read, follow & understand the logic
Represent the discussion which has been held at the workshop
Accessible and more professional design
Drives the development of more strategic solutions
