Prayer Wisdom

|
Callie Fold, who coordinated and initiated our 1st prayer walk, has an inspirational message to share with us:I believe that God is calling His people to bring His kingdom to this world through prayer. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God says "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land." Our "land" needs healing along with our country, our city and the women in this ministry. God PROMISES that when we are faithful to humble ourselves and pray and seek his face, then he will bring healing to our country, to Franklin, and to the women involved in Against the Grain. May our belief in this promise bring us to our knees in prayer.
God is teaching me that the call to pray is a call to:
BELIEVE: Our faith in God and belief that he will hear and answer matters when we pray. Scripture says in James 1 that if we ask but do not believe then we should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. There is just something about God's people believing that ushers in the kingdom of God. Hebrews 11 says that "Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see. As we pray, God is calling us to look beyond results, circumstances and emotions. Then believe for things that are being accomplished through prayer that we cannot always see, feel or touch. BLEED: Intercessory prayer involves letting down our protective walls and defenses and being willing to feel the pain and hardship of those around us. Before Jesus prayed to the Father for Lazarus to be raised from the dead in John 11, he wept with Mary. The scripture says in verse 33 that Jesus was "deeply moved in spirit and troubled" when he saw Mary weeping over the death of her brother. Jesus shows us that to intercede for another person first involves feeling their pain and heartache and even weeping with them. From that place of experiencing their pain we can intercede with power on their behalf. BOW: Prayer must always start form a posture of humility. We, as the people of God, must be bowed down acknowledging our own inability and inadequacy to accomplish anything of value outside of the Father. God calls his people to action in a specific order in the verse from 2 Chronicles that was quoted above. In this verse, the first thing God asks of us is that we would humble ourselves before we pray and seek his face. As we bow our hearts to him, we can enter into a time of prayer that acknowledges that God is sovereign all-powerful and all-knowing.

PERSPECTIVES

| |
Perspective....it's a never ending battle trying to keep a proper perspective. Over the last eight years we have heard countless stories that crush your heart and make you think "I just can't do this anymore". Then, there are the days when you see lives transformed; the homeless mother who gets her own place, the talk on the street about the inmate who took our classes and is "different" when he gets out or the teen that gets their 120 day pin for being drug free...those are the days that you live for, the days that encourage you to keep going.
Unfortunately, the tough days far outnumber the good, and it is through those dry seasons that perspective becomes so important. It is in those times that we have to remember why we do what we do. It's in those days that we have to remember Who we work for and view the challenges through His eyes. You may be struggling. You may be feeling like you just can't go on. Be encouraged! We will never face a challenge that He is not capable of handling. Be strong and know that a brighter day is coming, you don't have to quit. Keep a positive perspective knowing that He is in control and will work all things out for His purpose.

Exciting AtG Development News
| What? AtG is seeking acquisition of a transitional communal training home for women and children actively battling poverty and seeking total life change. Why now? This long-term goal has been moved to the forefront of our mission as we have seen increasing numbers of moms and children in the 180 Program facing homelessness and/or abusive living situations.
Who? 180 Program families who qualify will live on-site for 1-2 years as they complete the 180 Program curriculum. They will be required to meet education and employment goals while continuing to meet weekly with their personal mentor. The families living in the training house will also be required to participate in community service, with the final goal being home ownership and business leadership.
When? The goal is to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony by January 2011.
How can I help? We will need volunteer involvement during all stages of opening the AtG Training Home. During this initial stage, you can help in the following ways:
- Prayer support: please ask God to open the doors for property to be donated or for us to either lease/purchase or purchase the property He desires us to have. Ask for protection and encouragement to surround the families already in crisis.
- Financial support: obviously this will not happen without extra financial support. We are seeking grants, in-kind donations and all levels of sponsorship that will go directly toward opening the AtG Training Home.
- Steering Committee Nominations: We are forming a steering team of people committed to making this home a reality. If you would like to be considered for this position, or would like to refer us to someone, please email carmen@atghope.org for more details.

Volunteer Opportunities
| Against
the Grain relies upon volunteers for nearly every aspect of our
organization, and adding new families to the 180 Program means we also need
to add new volunteers.
Recent growth has given us opportunities to expand specific volunteer teams and invite more team leaders. Prior experience is not required; we will train you and place you with volunteer leaders who will work beside you. We have some of the most dedicated and passionate volunteers around, and they look forward to connecting with you and working together to change the future.
Check out our website www.atghope.org to download the Volunteer Manual and see the many opportunities available. We need your help to continue impacting families caught in negative generational cycles.
