IAAM-Who are we?
We are an up-and-coming nonprofit created to raise awareness, provide a global social network of sufferers and caregivers, develop realistic age-appropriate exercise and nutrition regimes and partner with existing nonprofits and other organizations that can provide physical, mental and financial support for autoimmune arthritis sufferers.

Greetings!

A new decade brings a new era of autoimmune arthritis awareness.  It's time to re-brand the word "arthritis".  It's time people understood the difference between general conditions that over 80% of the population will endure in their lifetime and the disabling conditions that occur within a predominately young demographic and are caused by immune system disfunction.

No more misunderstanding.  2010 is our year, our decade, our opportunity to re-brand 'arthritis'.

Read on to see what we are doing to make this happen!

LTRA headshotArthritis Foundation (USA) and IAAM Feature a Younger Side of Autoimmune Arthritis

"Let's Talk RA", a program through the Arthritis Foundation and sponsored by Bristol-Myers Squibb, have selected IAAM Founder, Tiffany Westrich, as one of the RA faces for 2010.

""I am thrilled to be working with the Arthritis Foundation and their educational program promoting the importance of doctor-patient communication.  When diagnosed, I reflected that I have always been a strong and tenacious person, a teacher and a leader. I vowed to become an advocate for the condition and am committed to staying true to that promise as I work to change the face of RA."   - Tiffany Westrich

The ad is anticipated to be in the May/June addition of Arthritis Today magazine.

Age Appropriate Exercise Regimes
With average age diagnosis between 20 and 40, realistic, affordable and age-appropriate exercise programs are on the horizon.

friends

Currently, IAAM has been working diligently to begin creating a broad fitness regime, which includes exercises that appeal to all ages, different levels of disability and a variety of activity preferences.  It is simply unrealistic to expect young sufferers to follow the same fitness programs suggested for older sufferers.  In 2010 we are listening to your exercise needs, then translating those desires into realistic, fun and affordable alternatives.
Once we are able to file the paperwork to become an official nonprofit, one of the first action plans will be to obtain grant money to put this program into motion!

The World of Autoimmune Arthritis Comes Together
Across the globe sufferers with Rheumatoid and Psoriatic Arthritis, Juvenile Arthritis, Lupus and Ankylosis Spondylitis came together one day in January, uniting with posts about the "Buckle Me Up!" International Autoimmune Arthritis Movement and why this nonprofit is important for our future..

friends

On June 9th, bloggers and sufferers alike united to tell stories of their misunderstood conditions, frustrations and hopes for the future.  From tales of diagnosis (or lack of) to emotional struggles, the world of autoimmune arthritis was loud, powerful and connecting on a level never before seen.
Because of these posts, we saw a 10% increase in membership and our donations for start up costs doubled!  Thank you to everyone who participated; we are now one step closer to official status!
