 About Sunday's Service

The first source of Unitarian Universalism invites us to have a "direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life." Direct experience has always been critical to our understanding of religion leading us to become a 'religion of heretics & seekers.' The service will investigate.

And Now for Something Completely Different a word or more from the Sunday Services Committee:

To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often ~John Henry Newman
Starting this week you will notice a few changes in the Sunday service. We are far from perfect but let's see how close we can get.

The UUC Chorale will sing New Age Dawning by Carl Strommen.  Dr. David Katz will sing At The River by Charles Ives.  Linda Jones will acommpany both songs and play "The Alcotts" from "Concord" Piano Sonata by Charles Ives and La Colombe by Olivier Messiaen

This Sunday is Share the Plate Sunday.

Abhi Janamanchi Random Reflections

We are off to a good start this year. Spirits are high particularly on Sunday mornings. We've had a number of new visitors and families. Let us work together to make them feel welcome and at home here at UUC. So, the next time you are at church, please take a moment to introduce yourself to someone you don't know and get to know them.

Also on Sunday, September 16 we will have our ingathering and Annual Water Communion.  Please bring some water to add to our communal bowl from your summer experiences and travels.  Extra water will be available for those with container issues and/or memory lapses.  Please be sure to attend this wonderful ceremony signalling our coming together once more for another year of going in peace, living gently, loving mightily and ever bowing to the mystery.

Religious Education Happenings
Hide and Seek
Please join this Sunday for Faith, Friendship, and Fun! Wonder and mystery is all around us. Our littlest UUs in our nursery (ages 0-3)find mystery in everything they do as they learn to play and make new friends. For our Pre-K & Kindergarten it is in the sun and stars. Our 1st-2nd grade class may find it while pretending to play Hide and Seek with God. Our 3rd-5th grade class will experience the awe and wonder in the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Our middle school class will go a little deeper and explore what makes something "religious" and identify the different faiths that they would like to learn more about.

Our high school youth group will meet on Sunday at 12:30 after the worship service. Their focus this month will be on the first source of transcendence and wonder and how it affects their daily lives. They will be also planning their first lock-in overnight.

I hope to see you on Sunday with a smile!

NU 2 UU?  Try New UU Class!

UUA Chalice

Have you been visiting Unitarian Universalist services for weeks, months, years, but STILL you are not quite sure that it's the right spirit home for you?

Choosing a church home that may feel radically different from past experience can be daunting.  This is especially true if you are still in the casual visitor or "still learning" mode.  If you identify with those descriptors, now might be the ideal time to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and the UUC congregation.  Our popular "New UU" mini-course convenes Thursday, September 27, and is now open for enrollment.

The course is six hours spread over three Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. on the UUC Campus.  Reverend Abhi Janamanchi is the course facilitator and provides some history of the Unitarian Universalism religion, some information about what's happening in the here and now of UU life in the world, and what's happening at UU Clearwater.  Most importantly, the course is about YOU if you are wanting to learn more about embracing your own unique feelings and beliefs about spirituality and how you fit your uniqueness under an equally unique faith label.  UU MAY BE YOU!

If you want to explore the UU waters more, save these dates and/or contact Ann Kanuck of our Welcoming Team to sign up for the class or learn more.  Sign-up sheets are also available at the Welcome Desk in the Octagon lobby.  Ann can be reached by email  or by telephone at 727.796.4585.  Ann will also welcome your sharing of any special needs you may have to permit your optimum learning (e.g., childcare, special seating, etc).

Ride Sharing

Some of you are currently giving rides to members of UUC.  We need more drivers from the north area, passing by the Hampton apartments, willing to pick up UUC Hampton residents once per month. This is the way our beloved members are assured a ride and some communing while commuting to services on Sunday.

Rice & Beans Collection

This year the UUC Economic Justice Team is kicking off our annual Maralyn Toman Beans and Rice Collection for the farmworkers as part of the ingathering service on September 16th. The farmworkers are in special need of food during the fall before the growing season begins. The food will be delivered to the farmworkers that live in the camps in Plant City in October. We are also collecting lightly used books for the children in the camps. Please remember to bring rice and beans with your water on the 16th.

This issue was helped along by a generous portion of rock & roll music including ELO's cover of Roll Over Beethoven.  This has certainly been a lot of fun.  I always envisioned a longer run, but things happen all the time, the one constant in life is change.  Now if you will excuse me a personal hero of mine is about to make a speech on National Television Wednesday night.  I've corn to pop and sodas to uncap.  Love and Peace always.
