About Sunday's Service
Economic inequality has become the subject of much debate in this country, in large part because of the Occupy Wall Street movement. On Labor Day weekend, the service will examine some of the causes of economic inequality and reflect on our commitments as a religious community.

Religious Education Happenings |
Please join us for a special children's worship this Sunday. On the First Sunday of the month the children and youth come together in the Maxwell Library/Social Hall at 10:30am to participate in a worship service designed just for them; an opportunity for children to do church in a way they can understand. Our theme this month is the first source of Unitarian Universalism, "The Sense of Wonder we all Share." Children are encouraged to share something that embodies wonder and mystery. Our High School Youth group meets from 12-1pm after the worship service for open discussion. I hope to see you on Sunday with a smile! Religious Education Information |

Hats Off to Jeanne Carney for updating the very important, but hopefully never needed, UUC hurricane/disaster preparedness manual. Her extensive background in the military doing similar work served UUC well in this capacity. She also is very active volunteering in the front office, performing in and supporting administratively the music program, and helping to coordinate the upcoming District Chorale Festival to take place in February 2013. Thank you for all you do Jeanne.
If you would like to volunteer your time and talents in some capacity to support UUC's mission, please email Eloise Hardman, Community Builders Chair. |

Ride Sharing
Some of you are currently giving rides to members of UUC. We need more drivers from the north area, passing by the Hampton apartments, willing to pick up UUC Hampton residents once per month. This is the way our beloved members are assured a ride and some communing while commuting to services on Sunday.
Green Team Notes
A hard copy (notebook) of UUC's completed application for Green Sanctuary accreditation is now available in the Maxwell Library. See all the green projects UUC has accomplished in the past few years. Pat yourself on the back for your participation. Check the Pinellas County Extension website for information about the Sustainable Floridians course beginning September 13th. Another good web site is Earth911.com. Please contact Dotti Doyle if you are interested in participating in new or existing green projects.
Trash to Treasure
"Trash to Treasure," a light-hearted workshop where you can learn how to make gifts and wrappings from up-cycled or recycled materials. This will be held on Saturday, October 20 1-4 pm.
Economic Justice
It's Labor Day Weekend at UUC. Let's sign some petitions.
After the service on Sunday, please stop by the Social Justice Council Table to sign two letters. One will be hand carried to the manager of the local Publix asking once again that Publix sign on to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers Fair Food Campaign. They are asking that Publix pay a penny a pound more for the tomatoes they buy to increase farmworkers wages and to impove the working conditions in the fields. The second letter is to Darden Restaurants. The UUSC has joined with Restaurant Opportunities Centers United to support the workers who have filed a class action law suit against Darden for discrimination and wage theft. Darden Restaurants own Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse and Capital Grille. There will be more information about this issue at the Social Justice Table.
Rice & Beans Collection
This year the UUC Economic Justice Team is kicking off our annual Maralyn Toman Beans and Rice Collection for the farmworkers as part of the ingathering service on September 16th. The farmworkers are in special need of food during the fall before the growing season begins. The food will be delivered to the farmworkers that live in the camps in Plant City in October. We are also collecting lightly used books for the children in the camps. Please remember to bring rice and beans with your water on the 16th.
Our new RCS Foodbank Box
Now that the RCS Foodbank Box has been dedicated we need to fill it up. Please read this and give generously as you are able.
Can That Birthday!
Having another birthday, and yet you already have everything you need? Ask for canned goods for RCS or Beans & Rice for migrant farm workers If you have a party or dinner, have a large box, perhaps gaily wrapped, sitting by the door or if in a restaurant, request a table to sit the box on. Just put a note in the invitation or tell your friends to bring canned food or beans & rice for others not as fortunate in life as you are. And we wish you a very happy birthday this year!
