 About Sunday's Service

Why do we exist?  What is it that brings us together and keeps us here?  What do we want to be and do?  Do we want to change?  If so, how?  The service will explore some of these questions in story, song, and sermon.

The Dynamic Duo of Fenstermaker & Goldhammer will be playing Teach Your Children Well, Down by the Riverside, & a couple of other tunes.

Welcome to New Ministerial Intern

Rachel Christensen

This Sunday the congregation welcomes
our new Ministerial Intern, Rachel Christensen. We look forward to working with Rachel for the next two years. Welcome to UUC Rachel!

Here is a personal message from Rachel:

This week I start as your Intern at the church. I am delighted to be doing this! I had the extreme pleasure of sitting in on the Saturday Retreat of your Board, and am slowly, gently getting to know people. I am excited to see the energy and optimism and plans for the church and for the chance to jump in to the community.

I hope for rich connections at the church. I hope for chances to know you. I hope for ways to serve and to learn and to grow. I hope you will come say hello to me, and introduce yourself, and that you will give me second and third chances to remember your name. I will need every one of them!

Religious Education Happenings
children'shands
Please join us this Sunday as we begin a new year together. It is a time to form friendships, explore our faith and as always have fun! Our children and youth will attend the first part of the worship service to join with the rest of the congregation in lighting the chalice, singing hymns and hearing a story in keeping with the day's theme before going to their Religious Enrichment classes. Each class will use their time to get to know each other and develop their classroom covenant that will help guide them through their year together.

Please arrive by 10:15am so that you will have time to sign in your child at the table in the Children's Library before the worship service at 10:30am. You may also register online here

Our High School youth group meets from 12-1pm to give our teenagers a chance to attend the full worship service or assist with the younger children.

I hope to see you on Sunday with a smile!

Remember, the Teacher retreat is on Saturday August 18th from 9am-3pm. Let's learn together and have fun while doing it!

Starbucks Starbucks is coming to UUC.  Starting September 2nd of this year Starbucks will be running the coffee hour(s) after the Sunday Service.  You can look forward to a wide variety of coffees and some baked goods to die for.  This will be pay as you go but they do take debit & credit cards.

Now this is not true...IT IS A LIE!!!

But, we need volunteers for hospitality folks.  Won't you please help our hospitality team?  Sign up in the Social Hall kitchen this week to help with one, or more than one, upcoming Sunday. Play an active role in making UUC a "Welcoming Congregation." You may also sign up by calling the UUC front office T-F, 9 a.m. - noon, 727-531-7704.

Hats Off!
Jenn Bouchie
This week we have to tip our hats to two outstanding members of the congregation.

First, Hats Off to Jenn Bouchie for her efforts in planning and coordinating the summer worship services we have all very much enjoyed.  Jenn is a mother, wife, hard-working church volunteer and all-around grand human being.  Thanks Jenn, for ALL you do.

John ChaseAlso, Hats Off to John "Johnny Appleseed" Chase.  He most generously donated eight new Oak trees that are now planted in the parking lot.  Each day he makes sure they are watered and thriving.  They are sure to provide wonderful new, cooling shade and beauty to the property.  Thank you John.
SUUSI now, SUUSI tomorrow, SUUSI forever!

Once more SUUSI has come and gone (bit like Christmas).  But the spirit of SUUSI lives on!  For those of you who could not attend, and for those of you wishing to relive some of the best moments of your life up until now you can stop worrying, help is on the way.

You can relive the best moments of SUUSI 2012 with podcasts by clicking here.  A certain Pancake Breakfast organizer strongly suggests you listen to Joe Jenks' touching story from Friday morning.

Next year's SUUSI theme (assuming the world is NOT consumed by an enormous mutant Star-Goat on Dec. 21) is Let It Be A Dance!

Paul Ryan, Romney's pick for a running mate, says he is a follower, a devotee, of the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Yet his record speaks something else, he voted FOR TARP. He was for the bailout of the American auto industry.   While speaking publicly against President Obama's stimulus package he was quietly lobbying for some of the same money to go to his district in Wisconsin. I think we are all aware that politicians lie to us darn near every time they draw breath but this guy evinces a serious dichotomy between his stated philosophy and the one we see in his actions and voting record.   Just sayin'.
