Earlier this year The Octagram posted a link to the Strategic Plan as created by Peter Goldhammer and others and presented by Linda Stoller & Pegotty Cooper. Our new President is intent on making the Strategic Plan, voted in at the annual meeting, a reality and thus we present once more, here, the Strategic Plan. From this day forward you will be able to view the Five-Year Strategic Plan from a link in our Quick Links section as well.
Neither Susan Hegner, nor the Board of Trustees, nay not even teamed with the formidable Knights Who Say Ni, can bring the Strategic Plan to life alone, it will take our whole community, each of us contributing our own unique gifts as we can, to make this Strategic Plan real.
Let us go Shining towards this goal. |

This month's movie is Go Fish. Potluck at 6:30 followed by discussion and Movie. Lynette Wood says her family made this movie. Rose Troche, the director, is her daughter-in-law. Lynette's son, Scout, was a producer and is in it. Lynette helped with fundraising. This was a breakthrough movie.(And a very good one. I saw this during its extremely limited run in Huntsville, Alabama when it first came out--Ed.) It won first place at Sundance Film Fest, Samuel Goldwyn picked it up and it went around the world. Please RSVP to Joe Weinstein at Joe before the evening. And bring a dish to share for potluck. If unable to bring food, please bring a $5 donation. |

The 2013 UU district choral festival will be held this year at the Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater on February 16-17. With the close proximity of the festival to Valentine's Day, this year's theme of LOVE seems rather fitting.
I am looking for pieces that a choir of about 100 amateur, semi-professional and some professional musicians can perform as part of a service focusing on the theme of love. The pieces should be written for SATB. There can be some further splitting (ie.SSATTBB). However, the pieces are performed by a majority of amateur musicians who, though they learn the pieces ahead of time, have limited rehearsal time at the festival itself. The duration of the piece should be between 3-6 minutes. We do have some fine instrumentalists at our church so if you wanted to incorporate some sort of instrumental obligato, you can e-mail me privately regarding the possibilities.
The deadline for submission is September 30, 2012. If you are interested in submitting a work, please e-mail me the manuscript to me
Finally, please pass this information along to anybody within our UU family in Florida. Thank you ahead of time for considering the sharing of your gifts in this very special and personal way. Personally, I can't wait to see the results.
Blessed be and Shalom,
Dr. David Katz Director of Music Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater, Florida as a PDF attachment. Also, if you are able, please attach an MP3 formatted recording of the work as well. If your piece is selected, you will need to provide MP3 formatted recordings of all separate voice parts as well as the complete piece. You will also be giving UUC permission to post these recordings as well as the manuscript on its website and allow participants of the festival to download this material and use it for free. The choral festival service at UUC on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 will be streamed via the World Wide Web and in knowing that, you give us permission to include your piece as part of that streaming. Please understand that you will not be compensated in any financial form for its performance during the 2013 festival. However, you will have the thrill of hearing your wonderful creation of music performed in a fantastic musical space |
Sheriff's Debate Coming to UUC |
Interim Sheriff Bob Gualtieri will face former sheriff Everett Rice in a fight for a critical spot on the August 14 Primary ballot during a debate set for Tuesday, July 17, at UUC. The National Armed Services & Law Enforcement Memorial Museum sheriff debate will help determine which of the two Republican front-runner candidates will prevail in the county's most hotly contested and contentious year-long campaign.
Bay News 9 and Patch.com have joined to offer full county-wide coverage of the debate through Patch online live-streaming and with Bay News 9 On Demand Channel 342.
Challenging Gualtieri and Rice is Democrat Scott Swope and write-in candidate, Greg Pound. The four candidates will answer tough questions about personal qualifications, budget management, community policing and key campaign issues from moderator, Al Ruechel, Bay News 9 senior anchor. Organizer and event chairman, Harvey A. Smith, predicts a "sell-out" crowd in the 300-seat UUC Octagon Arts Center due to the emotionally-charged and highly competitive campaign duel between Gualtieri and Rice.
The debate is free and open to the public but Smith advises arriving early for best seating. Voter registration will take place in the lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m. |
