January Music Reflection

Sing a Joyful Song
Dr. David Katz
Dr. David Katz

I love a new year! To me it feels like the start of school with fresh paper and untouched pens for which to define your life for the next twelve months. I can't wait to see how UUC will make a difference in the lives of those it serves.

He received his BA from Notre Dame, his JD from UF College of Law, and his EdM in Administration and Social Policy from Harvard. Religious Education Happenings

Our Pre-k & Kindergarten children will find out how important it is to practice patience and understanding between cultures and religions through the story The Wisdom Bird: A Tale of Solomon and Sheba.

Our 1st-2nd grade class will have the opportunity to make some music with our music director Dr. Katz before returning to their class for some fun crafts.

Our 3rd-5th grade class will continue hunting for the treasures in everyday life; in themselves and those around them.  What treasures will they find?

Our 6th-8th will be learning about the Khasi Hills school in India as they help prepare for the fundraiser pizza lunch held from 12:30-2pm in the Social Hall.

Our High school youth group will also assist with the Khasi Hills luncheon.

Please join us!  We can't wait for Sunday!

Jamamanchi Family Loss

It is with great sadness that we announce that Lalitha's father died suddenly on January 19 2012.  He was 79 and lived in India.  Rev. Abhi and his family request that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they make the very involved arrangements to travel to India.
Consecration Sunday is Coming

Sunday, Feb 5th

The Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater (UUC) approaches financial stewardship from a heart- and spirit-centered perspective. This means we do not view the money given to UUC merely as a way to pay our bills.  Rather, we see financial contributions as a way to nurture spirits and help heal our world by supporting our congregation's mission and ministry with a percentage of the givers' incomes.
Environmental Justice/Green Team Happenings
Green Earth

The next meeting of the Green Team is this Saturday, January 21st from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Reminder to those who have borrowed films from the Green Team film library - please return the films to the Social Justice table on Sunday.

We will be starting a new fund raising activity on Sunday, January 22nd. We are taking orders for "Bunch Bags" after the service. These are eco-friendly net bags for produce. Bring them to the grocery or the farmer's market as an alternative to plastic bags.  Samples and brochures will be available. The Bunch Bags sell as bunches of three for $6.50. UUC will receive $3.00 from each sale. We will be selling them on January 22nd, Jan. 29th, and February 5th. They make great gifts for eco-conscious friends, family and fruit and veggie lovers.

Reader's Forum

The Readers Forum will meet on Friday, January 20th in the Chorale Room at 10 am, to conclude our discussion of The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

Reading ObamaA week later, on Friday, January 27th, we begin discussing Reading Obama: Dreams, Hopes, and the American Political Tradition, by James T. Kloppenberg. Reading Obama is the first book to try to tease out a coherent political philosophy from the president. Kloppenberg, a prominent intellectual historian at Harvard, does this not by analyzing Obama's pre-presidential record or his campaign rhetoric or his policies but-like a senior professor sizing up a tenure aspirant-by reviewing Obama's published dossier.
Before attending the January 27th session, please read the Introduction and Chapter 1 of Reading Obama - to page 84.

I attended my first Bored meeting tonight as a newly installed member of the board.  It is funny, you would think they would have you take an oath or something, nah...just welcomed me with open arms and that was it.  Now it is very late and I am trying to finish up the Octagram.  Really enjoyed the Blackout today to protest our Congress trying once more to not just trample on but to stomp the living daylights out of free speech in America.  Well, I'm going to put this edition to bed and then sleep, sleep, sleep.  This issue was fueled mainly by a fear of the enormous Mutant Star Goat...or not.

ORDER OF SERVICE/ANNOUNCEMENTS - WEEKLY EVERY SUNDAY SERVICE:

Deadline is 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Send appropriate items to Order of Service/Announcements.   Prepared by Pat St. Clair.

About Sunday's Service

Unitarian Universalists and other religious liberals have always emphasized the positive aspects of the divine and human nature. As a result, critics sometimes charge that we do not have a true grasp of the reality of evil. The service will seek to provide a theological framework for religious liberals to contend with the reality of evil.

This is Share the Plate Sunday. Our recipient is Interfaith Worker Justice.
