Authenticity makes a comeback...

Fashion designer Coco Chanel once said that 'hard times arouse an instinctive desire for authenticity'.  This statement seems to reflect a growing change in attitude and in particular design, which has come about since the 2008 financial crash.  I have been delighted to see a growing popularity in objects and items for the home that have 'real' values rather than those with showy superficiality.  We are seeing a return to beautiful natural materials and crafted simplicity. Designers are using purer materials rather than metallics and exotic woods.  This all has a gentler impact on the eye the planet and the wallet.  It seems that we now want the objects in our homes to be made with care and environmental awareness and with materials that offer longevity.  Authenticity is back in fashion and long may this continue!

What's On....

London Design Festival.

17th - 25th September.

Over nine days in September, the London Design Festival features hundreds of events that take place across London, showcasing the city's pivotal role in global design.  A centerpiece of the Festival is the commissions, the Landmark Projects, some of the world's greatest architects and designers have created pieces of work in some of London's best-loved public spaces.
There are also over 280 events across 25 design disciplines. The Victoria &Albert Museum is the hub of the Festival, and should be the first port-of-call for Festival visitors: the place to meet, pick up information and visit inspiring installations and events.Throughout the Museum there is an array of specially commissioned installations and displays, and a broad programme of special events, talks and workshops that take place throughout the week.
