How do the PMP Pals define "success?"

The definition of success is as varied as are the people who are affected by cancer!

Within the PMP Pals' Network, success varies from the number of Pal Members participating in our Disease Free Pals Program (growing in numbers every year and comprised of "Pals" who have been NED for five to twenty years!) to those of us who may never have had a "clear" scan and have never been disease free but who are living fulfilling lives while managing cancer as a chronic illness.

In today's issue of PMP Pals, we present a variety of Pals, some of whose cases may surprise you, and all of whom will inspire you!
Chuck Relies on TPN for Nutrition

Chuck has been a member of the PMP Pals' Network for more than a decade! His diagnosis is Mucinous Adenocarcinoma (Appendiceal Cancer.) A "veteran" of several surgeries, Chuck is no longer operable and has been depending on TPN for nutrition for nearly a year.

Chuck doesn't allow TPN to prevent him from traveling and enjoying life! He and his wife, Carol, enjoy several vacations each year, and love traveling to visit their family!

This photo of Chuck, enjoying the Texas Blue Bonnetts was taken by Carol, last week, during their trip to view the spring wildflowers!

Friday the 13th Was Jen's Lucky Day!

Jennifer Has a "Clear" CT Scan!

Jennifer has experienced a variety of challenges during her battle with Appendix Cancer during the past few years. She has had several extensive surgeries, HIPEC and systemic chemotherapy, but the disease remained consistent.

However, all of that changed a few days ago, when on Friday the 13th, her surgical oncologist advised her that her six month post op CT scan was "all clear!"

Three Generations Celebrate Stan's Good Health!

Stan's Family Gathered for Seder Dinner!

Longtime Pal, Stan is no stranger to the hospital! Due to several surgeries and emergency room visits to treat obstructions, Stan has become a "veteran" of medical care.

However, through his trust in his surgeon, and the love and support of his family, seen here following their recent Seder dinner during Passover, Stan continues to thrive and look forward to each upcoming family celebration!

Chris Takes Family to Disneyland!

Chris and his young family enjoyed meeting Goofy and other beloved characters during their recent vacation to Disneyland during Easter vacation!

Chris' eldest daughter was only six weeks old when Chris had CRS and HIPEC. Chris and his wife welcomed their youngest daughter into their family two years following Chris's surgery!

Chris has been NED for more than five years! No wonder his family celebrated in Disneyland!

Robert  Plays Golf While on Chemotherapy!

Robert, second from right, is an avid golfer!

Our Pal Robert has been fighting Appendix Cancer for more than 6.5 years and for much of that time he has served as a Pal Mentor to other patients!

During that time he has had CRS, HIPEC and has received chemotherapy twice each month, with a schedule of one weekend "on" and one weekend "off."

During his "on" weekends for chemotherapy, he catches up on much needed rest (he is self employed as a dentist all week.) During his weekends "off" he plays golf and sails during the summer and skis during the winter.

Last week, Robert had his tumor markers checked followed by his quarterly CT scan. Although not cancer free (that's why he receives chemotherapy) he received news from his oncologist that his disease is stable, with no new tumor growths, no spreading/growing of existing tumor sites, and no other "major issues." For those of us who are not cancer free, "stablity" is good news!

Robert reports, "I still continue to work full time (thanks to my great staff who support is outstanding) indulge in all the activities that I have always done (thanks to my friends who help me ski, bike and golf with understanding) and especially live life with optimism (thanks to my family whose love keeps me going!)
