Making Our Community Better

L-R Chamber Membership Coordiantor Paulina McChesney presents a cheque to Shelley Gilmore, Executive Director of Crossroads Treatment Centre Society.
This year Crossroads Treatment Centre Society received a cheque for $200 from funds raised during the Kelowna Chamber Annual Golf Tournament. Golfers had the option of paying $10 to have a professional golfer take their shot at Hole #1. It was a popular option by several golfers which hopefully improved their game, in the end the money went to a great organzation. |

MAYOR'S MESSAGE
When property taxes come due every year, some groups take that as their cue to dust off annual complaints about excessive spending among municipalities.
Kelowna is often lumped in with these generalized complaints based on province-wide averages, and sometimes outdated information or statistics. Full Story |

Second Location Grand Opening
a Mammoth Success
Amazingly during a world wide recession Bones and Stones has opened a second larger location. What is the key to their success? Owner Sandy McKay jokingly says, "If you build it, they will come." What she actually has done is offered people in the Okanagan something unique.
"We are the only dealers in the Okanagan for rare stones and fossils," she says. What she and her husband Bill have done is also secured exclusive rights to Green River Fish Fossils out of Wyoming. If anyone in BC wants these fossils they have to come to Kelowna's Bones and Stones.
The original store, on Lawrence downtown, is still there and still operating, mainly getting lots of tourist traffic, but with the larger location they now can carry larger items, such as fountains, huge fossils, larger sculptures and the most amazing bar.
