Mayor's Message
Our challenge this year and in the years ahead is to make decisions that make the best use of resources we have to work with. Our policing needs are not simply a matter of having more feet on the street. It's about targeting chronic offenders and criminal activity. Council has reviewed an independent report and assessment of needs and has directed staff to develop a strategy to meet those needs.

Congratulations to Vonnie Lavers!!

Vonnie received one of the first of 60,000 Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals to be presented to Canadians who have made outstanding contributions to their communities and country. Vonnie Lavers and her team at the Kelowna Community Food Bank have been making a difference in our Community for years! In 1983, they set up operation in a church basement to meet emergency food needs for the community. Over the next two decades, the Kelowna Food Bank has grown from serving 600 people per year to nearly 30,000, with nearly a third of them children. The Kelowna Chamber wants to thank Vonnie and her team for their continued efforts and congratulate her for being honored for her contributions to our Community.

We had the chance to tour Spider Agile Technology and wow...what a place! This company takes their committment to green serious! A large morning crowd enjoyed a gourmet hot breakfast provided by Spider Agile Technology and sponsored in part by Sysco. The breakfast is one of many for 2012 organized by Fresh Outlook Foundation. The breakfast was followed by a presentation from Spider Agile Technology and DIRTT Environmental Solutions. DIRTT and SPIDER are changing the way we construct and design interior environments through sustainalbe products and design. These environments and working spaces are also accompanied by Breathe Living Walls, which bring diverse forms of nature indoors to beautify and detoxify the work areas. There was also a demo by the amazing LOTUS Pro Water which cleans with only water! Another sponsor Fortis talked about their light swap program "Flip" for businesses looking to improve their lighting. A hands-on demonstration of the video game like experience in the incredible 3D software ICE was incredible. Fresh Outlook will be hosting a "Building Sustainable Communities" Conference at the end of this month and they'll be organizing more breakfasts like these...so stay tuned...!
