New Assistant Superintendent makes accountability central to reform efforts
Half way through her first year with Ravenswood City School District, Rosa Molina's mantra has been the three R's -- "Results, Relationships, Responsibility." Ms. Molina brings invaluable leadership to RCSD after 28 years with San Jose Unified School District where, most recently as Asst. Superintendent, she contributed to the increasing standards that led State Superintendent of Public Instruction to describe SJUSD's accomplishments in closing the achievement gap as "incredible." Sharing her view of where REF must continue to focus, she remarks, "I think the best way to impact students who have real academic needs is to continue to support the schools in their efforts to extend the school day. Without additional support the children of the district are relegated to only 5.5 hours of instruction a day and that is simply not enough when we are creating a core program that requires students to 'catch up in order to keep up.'"

REF Fall Campaign ensures 2010 initiatives will get essential funding
Thanks to the generosity of many of you, our supporters, we met our $50,000 challenge grant and raised a total of over $175,000. These resources will enable REF to fund its most critical 2010 initiatives, including rollout of the extended day program from one campus to three, support for 8th grade transition programs, continued parent outreach, and additional summer academy programming this year.
