Senator Alloway Visits CAMS: Library & Students
On April 4, 2011, Senator Alloway visited CAMS. He was invited as part of a program run by the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association. The PSLA collaborates with school librarians to invite state legislators to schools to learn how school libraries encourage academic success.
Senator Alloway observed Librarian Teresa Miller as she discussed the correct ways to conduct research to Caitlyn McGee's Language Arts class.
The Senator then spoke to the students about the importance of reading and research. In addition, he stressed the need for students to learn to make decisions for themselves.
The students also asked him many interesting questions, ranging from "What did you want to be when you were young?" to "Have you ever met the President?"
Senator Alloway kept both students and adults interested.

CASHS Floral Design Class Visits Menno Haven
This picture is of Janine Harbaugh's (Agriculture Education Teacher at CASHS) Floral Design class. They visited Menno Haven. Ms. Harbaugh worked with the Menno Haven activities director to plan a 50's themed party.
Students taught some of the residents how to make an arrangement that looked like a milkshake with whipped cream & a cherry on top. Students worked in pairs and taught groups of five residents how to construct the arrangements, which were then used to decorate the tables at their root beer float party that afternoon.
This was an excellent opportunity for students to spend time within our community, teaching and learning. The students had a great time talking with the residents. Some popular topics of conversation included: favorite place to get ice cream, first date stories, prom, and favorite past times.
This was a rewarding opportunity for all involved. Ms. Harbaugh and her students are looking forward to going back to Menno Haven.
