Hamilton Heights Elementary, Project: TEAM
HATS, GLOVES, & SCARVES DRIVE: Under the direction of Mrs. Linsey Covert, Guidance Counselor, Project: TEAM and Hamilton Heights Elementary successfully collected over 200 items (30 scarves, 100 hats, & 130 pairs of gloves), all of which will be distributed among our local schools and community.
FOOD DRIVE: Project: TEAM also organized a food drive during the months of October and November. Nearly 400 items were colllected and donated to the Chambersburg Food Pantry.
TEAM TIMES: In addition, Project: TEAM has created a student newspaper. The paper, created and run by a group of eight to ten students, covers the monthly success of Project: TEAM, as well as upcoming school events, study tips, and "spotlights" an adult in a leadership position. December's "spotlight" is an interview with Principal Nelson. The idea of the newspaper developed from a discussion between students Emma Wolfe & Drew Wible. The students will run their first issue in late December. |

Project Tomorrow: Speak Up Survey
In order to best meet the technological needs of our community (staff and parents alike) CASD is asking everyone to take a brief survey, Project Tomorrow Speak Up Survey. The information you provide will help the new Director of Technology develop a plan to achieve your vision for technology in our schools. If you are both an educator and a parent, you may take the survey designed for each of those roles. When prompted for the special school code, type: casd." |

Chambersburg Reads
Across the district, students and our community participated in the "Chambersburg Reads" program. The program was established as a joint effort between the combined arts (fine arts & literature) to encourage reading and inspire service in our communities.
In celebration of the program, the school district purchased six different books (Listen to the Wind, The Two Bobbies, Pennies for Elephants, Letters for Soldiers, Have You Filled a Bucket Today, & Weezer Changes the World) from the recommended reading list for all the elementary libraries.
Two guest readers, from the Conococheague Players, read to students at Benjamin Chambers and Andrew Buchanan Elementary Schools. The Conococheague Players read Listen to the Wind by Greg Morteson. This is a picture book version of Three Cups of Tea, an inspirational story about how (against many odds) Mr. Morteson built schools in Pakistan.
After reading Letters to Soldiers many students across the district wrote letters to deployed soldiers across the U.S. and around the world. This is a perfect example of authentic literacy, which is when student learning corresponds with real-world application. |

District Staff and Teachers Participate in
Angel Tree Campaign
Thanks to the generosity and caring of our district staff, teachers, and parents, families in our schools will experience the joy of Christmas. Several schools, as well as the administration buidling, had "Angel Trees" placed in their lobbies, which were covered with tags. "All of the tags were taken off of our tree," stated Mrs. Linsey Covert, Guidance Counselor for Hamilton Heights Elementary. Mrs. Covert, Mrs. Brubaker, Mrs. Hultin, Mrs. Altland, and several other teachers spent the afternoon of December 20th wrapping gifts. It's clear that our staff and teachers are dedicated to our students-beyond the classroom, beyond the office.

Hype Dance Team: Faust Jr. High School
Getting everyone in the spirit of the season, the Hype Dance Team decorated the Christmas tree at the Chambersburg Cold-Weather Drop-In Shelter.
Under the guidance of Mrs. McCollum, the students also worked together to make blankets.
The students then donated the blankets to Craig Newcomer of Maranatha Ministries on December 15th.
