What Is a Half Day?

National Drug Take-Back Day

On Saturday, September 25, the Chambersburg Police Department, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will help remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our community's medicine cabinets.

pillsCollection activities will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Chambersburg Fire Department, 130 North Second Street. Those who wish to dispose of unwanted pharmaceutical items may drop them off at this time.

The National Drug Take-Back Day is an opportunity for the public to anonymously surrender expired, unwanted, or unused controlled substances and other medications for destruction. Prescription and over-the-counter solid dosage medication (tablets and capsules) will be accepted, but intravenous solutions, injectables, needles, and illicit substances such as marijuana will not.

NFL Player to Visit Schools

CobbFormer National Football League player Michael Cobb will visit CASHS and Faust later this month to talk about the importance of values, morals, education, and proper decision-making.

Cobb, who played tight end for the Chicago Bears from 1977 to 1981, will speak with interested students at CASHS on Wednesday, September 29 and Faust on Thursday, September 30. He will share how he found help in overcoming pressures and problems in daily life and will encourage students to recognize the consequences of their choices.

Cobb's visit is arranged through Sports World, an Indianapolis-based organization that shares former professional athletes' personal life experiences with students. For more information, please contact Maria Banks at banksmar@chambersburg.k12.pa.us.

Direct Deposit vs. Paycheck

Is it direct deposit or a check I need to cash?

checkWe are used to our pay being direct deposit, but there are occasions where the business office needs to issue you a check. These occasions are: (1) tuition reimbursement, (2) mileage reimbursement, or (3) anytime you make a change to your direct deposit through the payroll direct deposit authorization form. Please check your pay statements carefully to avoid discarding checks!

Coach's Corner

pens and pencilsCoach's Corner brings you a special story, nugget of wisdom, good experience, or tale from the frontline from one of our academic coaches. This week's corner is shared by Carole Kirkpatrick, K-5 literacy coach.

September is a great month to begin again, and that includes not just college football but classroom rituals and routines. Laid right now, these foundations of your classroom organization will pay dividends in the months ahead.

On the ELA website under Guiding Documents is El Paso Workshop's Living the Writerly Life for all grade levels. It's a step-by-step 'how-to' for writer's workshop. Another popular program for rituals and routines in reading is the Daily 5 based on the books by "the sisters," Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.
