Word from the Administration
The first day of 2010-2011 was a resounding success, thanks to our staff and students all working together in anticipation of a new year! Throughout our schools, there was a positive atmosphere and a real sense of camaraderie, as noted in stories shared by parents and principals. From food service and transportation to personal care aides and buildings and grounds, everyone shares responsibility for this great start.
Teachers were welcoming their students with the same desire and passion for leading and mentoring that makes them the very best at what they do. And you hit the ground running! Teaching and learning are already happening in classrooms that you've been arranging, preparing, and decorating for some time.
In just the two weeks before school started, we registered 100 new students and accommodated numerous address changes. Even so, we were able to maintain appropriate class sizes, and we will continue to monitor class sizes as enrollment fluctuates.
We couldn't be more thrilled about how the first day went, as students arrived under a perfectly blue sky. With the many challenges in public education today, it was impressive to see that everyone's focus was on the children. The students are the reason we do what we do. Good things are in store for 2010-2011; let's use this strong start as a springboard to a great year!

Israel Trip Planned for Summer 2011
Dr. Padasak and the Rev. Dr. William Harter, along with CASHS teacher Ian Jacobs, will be leading a summer seminar in Israel from July 24 to August 7, 2011. Dr. Harter is a specialist on the region, and this advanced seminar is designed for teachers, administrators, counselors, social workers, and other educational professionals to learn about cultural and educational practices in Israel.
Families, youth, and other community members are also welcome to participate in this travel experience. There will be special components designed for youth and the young at heart.
Dr. Padasak has arranged for Wilkes University to sponsor the trip as a Special Topics in Education graduate course and provide three credits for each interested participant. Educators will have the opportunity to enjoy a special vacation while earning graduate and Act 48 credits.
The 15-day trip will include white water rafting on the Jordan River, a climb of Masada, a walk-through of Hezekiah's Tunnel, and the opportunity to spend a day at a working archeological site. Stops include Jerusalem, Nazareth, Capernaum, Mt. Carmel, the Golan Heights, Jericho, and other destinations.
