Wishing everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend with family and friends as we remember those who have served our country and given their lives to protect our freedom!

$60K in Scholarships Awarded

The CASD Foundation announced $60,300 in scholarships for 74 students at the annual Night of the Stars ceremony on May 17. The Foundation awarded $1,500 scholarships from its general endowment to 20 seniors as well as 27 named scholarships.

Baird Memorial Scholarship, the Gordon Lambert Memorial Scholarship, the Linda B. & William H. Harter Scholarship, and the Ian Jacobs Drama Award.

For a complete list of winners, see this press release. We wish all the recipients and applicants continued success as they pursue their personal goals and professional dreams!

Student Medication Policy to Change

pillsBeginning with the 2010-2011 school year, no over-the-counter or prescription medications will be administered to students by district nursing staff without an individual medication order from a physician. This means our school nurses' offices will no longer be stocking Tylenol, cough drops, or any other medication.

In the past, a local physician would sign a blanket standing order permitting our nursing staff to administer over-the-counter medication to students. Due to liability concerns and the increasingly complex health needs of some students, these standing orders will no longer be in place.

More information about this policy will be sent home to parents, and detailed forms will be posted on the district website.

District Earns EPA Energy Star

EPA energy starCASD has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency. Only 59 schools in Pennsylvania have received an Energy Star rating, and 15 of those are in CASD!

Chambersburg was named a "Top Performer/20% Energy Star Leader for 2010" for an improved energy performance of 20% for our 19 buildings. In the last 10 years, there have been only 97 Energy Star Leaders nationwide, and CASD is one of them. Buildings with the star rating typically use 40% less energy than an average building.
