Welcome Picnic

Join us Sunday, September 9th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm for our annual Welcome Picnic.   This event is for parents, students, alumni, siblings and extended family.   Please bring a covered dish (enough to feed your family plus one) and your lawn-chair or picnic blanket.   Don't feel compelled to share a family recipe, but we would like you to write the ingredients on a note card or piece of paper in case anyone has a specific food allergy.  The Parent Association supplies paper goods and beverages as well as charcoal for the grill located in the picnic area.

We will gather on the back lawn of the school grounds to play some old-fashioned lawn games and to enjoy the opportunity to meet other parents while the children play.

Parking in the visitor lot and along the driveway, (Please note: DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS, as the school has an underground sprinkler system.),  will be first come, first served; therefore it is best to arrive early.   Additional parking is available in the lot at Conrow Park adjacent to the school driveway.   If handicapped parking is needed for you or for a family member, please call ahead and we may be able to accommodate you.  The best bet is to arrive as early as possible to get a close parking spot.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The Parents Association is still looking for volunteers for clean-up after the picnic.   If you are interested in volunteering please contact Rebecca Schwartz (Sara/Ms. Merike's Class)

at bex324@comcast.net.

The Merits of Teaching Cursive Writing

Mr. Matt, Elementary Director, recently came across an article ppublished in the Reno Gazette-Journal written by a third grade public school  teacher.  In it she offers examples of the far-reaching effects on fine motor skills and cognitive development of students who learn cursive writing--something few public schools teach nowadays!  This article further validates what we, as Montessorians, already know.

Soccer Skills Lessons
