This Week In History

On this September 21, 1780, during the American Revolution, American General

Benedict Arnoldmeets with British Major John Andre to discuss handing over West Point to the British, in return for the promise of a large sum of money and a high position in the British army. The plot was foiled and Arnold, a former American hero, became synonymous with the word "traitor."

Halloween in Bayside

  • Trick-or-Treat:  Sunday, October 28 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
  • Fright Night:  5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Making Voting Easy
Absentee ballots were mailed out this week to residents that requested to receive them and sample ballots are posted to the website.  If you would like to receive an absentee ballot, fill out the absentee ballot application and drop it off or mail it to Village Hall.  As a reminder, you can vote early at Village Hall beginning October 22.

The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board launched a new website called
myvote.wi.gov.  This website provides voters with numerous services and abilities, including the ones show below.
  • Check on the status of their absentee ballot - if one has been requested;
  • Register to vote or update their voter information such as address, name, etc.
    • Voters can print off these sheets and send them to the municipal clerk address that is provided.
    • Drivers license number and/or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number are required.
Residents Discuss Community Wells and H2O

A meeting was held at Bayside Middle School on Wednesday night where residents from the Village's various water trusts discussed the

trusts discussed the possibility of bringing another water source to those interested (voluntary connection).  The issue has risen from water trusts (joint, shared wells) that have experienced significant infrastructure and water quality issues, as well as substantial costs over the past few years and future projected costs of repairs.  Specifically, several water trusts (a group of residents sharing one well), are looking to pursue options that would convert their community wells to municipal water provided by the City of Mequon, as their own infrastructure reaches a point of replacement.

The Village holds no official stance on the option of municipal water, with all discussions presented by private citizens.  For residents living in the area north of Brown Deer Road, south of Fairy Chasm, east of Port Washington, and west of the railroad tracks (Regent Road) seeking more information, feel free to contact resident Howard Feiges

Touching Up the Roads

Village road construction  is nearing an end.  Below is a quick overview of the final stages of this project.

  • In recent weeks, the contractor completed all paving and shouldering work.
  • Next week, the contractor's engineer will perform a "walk-through" and identify any additional work that must be performed by the contractor.  These are the finishing touches before the project is considered complete.
  • By the end of next week, the Village expects to have a schedule for completion of all work for our 2012 Road Construction Projects.

Crack Sealing

Over the next few weeks you may notice crack sealing work taking place at the following locations throughout the Village:

  • N. Tennyson Drive (north of Fairy Chasm Road);
  • N. Pelham Parkway (Brown Deer Road to Ellsworth Lane);
  • N. Bayside Drive;
  • E. Bay Point Road (east of Lake Drive);
  • E. Glencoe Place (west of Regent Road);
  • N. Sleepy Hallow Lane.

The process involves the routing of existing cracks, filling with a sealant, and covering with a tissue paper to allow for proper curing.  This prevents water from infiltrating and undermining the quality of the road, particularly during the thawing and freezing cycles.

Research shows that active crack sealing programs are cost effective in extending the life of pavement as opposed to the cost of extensive pavement repairs for streets left unsealed.

Take Advantage of Fall Clean-Up Opportunities

Saying Goodbye to Cody

Village Management Assistant Cody Loew was married in June, and his wife was accepted into the University of Wisconsin Children's Hospital Pediatric Residency Program.  Cody notified the Village yesterday that he has accepted a position with th e University of Wisconsin System Office of Planning and Budget as a Program and Policy Analyst starting in early October.  Cody's last day will be October 5.  Both professionally and personally, the Village would like to thank Cody for his commitment, contributions, and overall work ethic in his tenure with the Village.  As Cody has indicated, "He has never been part of an organization with as many dedicated, talented, and forward-thinking professionals."  Cody will truly be missed.

On behalf of the entire Village organization, I wish Cody and Kerry the best in their future endeavors.
