This Week in History

On May 29, 1848, following approval of statehood by the territory's citizens, Wisconsin enters the Union as the 30th state.  In 1634, French explorer Jean Nicolet landed at Green Bay, becoming the first European to visit the lake-heavy northern region that would later become Wisconsin.

Thought for the Week

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go..."

-- Dr. Seuss

We've Got Questions, We Need Your Answers

The 2012 Community Survey is now available, and we need to know what you think.  The survey will help provide the Village with your perceptions and opinions about services as well as current and future initiatives.  Your answers will help direct the Village to establish policies for the type and level of services that are provided for Bayside residents.

The survey only takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.  There are a number of convenient ways to obtain and complete the survey, which are outlined below:

  • Take it online;
  • Download the Community Survey from the Village website, print, fill out, and drop it off at Village Hall;
  • Complete the survey in the June edition of the monthly Village newsletter, Village Scene, and return to Village Hall;
  • Pick-up and return a hard copy of the survey at Village Hall.

The survey submittal deadline is Friday, June 29 at 4:30 pm.  Residents can drop-off a hard copy of the Community Survey after hours by placing it in the night depository box at Village Hall.

After all surveys are received and tabulated, survey results will be made available for review.  If you have any questions, please contact Village Hall at 414-351-8811.  Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.

Voting Season

Absentee ballots are now available for the June 5 2012 Recall Election at Village Hall.  If you're unable to vote the day of the election, be sure to stop in early to cast your ballot.  Please remember the last day to request an absentee ballot in person is Friday, June 1 (today!) before 5:00 pm.  There is no absentee voting at Village Hall the day before the Election (June 4).

The Recall election will be held next Tuesday, June 5, at Bayside Middle School.  Polls will be open from 7am - 8pm, and residents are asked to please use the Standish Place entrance when coming to vote.

Road Repairs On the Way

The 2012 construction season is shaping up to be quite busy!  Perhaps the largest project(s) taking place this summer will be several road repaving repairs.  The project(s) will consist of pulverizing and shaping the existing pavement and base, overlaying with new asphalt pavement, as well as restoring the existing stone shoulder.  This work is tentatively scheduled to begin at the end of June, and be completed by early fall of this year. The specific start and completion date will vary based upon each road. The roads affected by this work include:

  • Rexleigh Drive (From BDR to Fairy Chasm Road)
  • Maitland Road
  • E. Glencoe Place (off Rexleigh Drive)
  • Donges Circle/Lane
  • Glenbrook Road
  • E. Ravine Lane
  • Crocker Place
  • W. Glencoe Place (west of PWR)
  • W. Fairy Chasm Road (west of PWR)
  • W. Ravine Lane
  • Port Court
  • Duchess Court
  • Apple Blossom Lane
  • Sequoia Drive
  • W. Jonathan Lane

All homeowners who will be impacted by this work will be receiving a letter from the Village in the coming week.  If you have any questions, please contact Alex Henderson, or call Village Hall at 414-351-8813.

UPAF Ride

The annual United Performing Arts Fund Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite, will be making its way through Bayside on Sunday, June 3.  The 50-mile route that makes its way through Bayside is the longest of all the routes in action that day.

The route in Bayside will include Port Washington Road, Fairy Chasm Road, and Lake Drive.  Drivers are asked to please use caution during this time, as many bikers and pedestrians are present to participate and help cheer those involved.

Thanks For Your Help

As a quick reminder, the Department of Community & Utility Services would like to remind residents to make sure all items are placed inside garbage or recycling containers for collection.  Items placed outside of containers will not be collected, and can cause littering and other issues.

Also, residents are asked to do their best to have all material fit inside the container, with the lid closed.  While we realize this is not always possible, it does help prevent blowing debris before and during pickup.
