Bike and Pedestrian Safety
Bicycles are considered "vehicles" on Wisconsin roadways. That means bicyclists must obey the rules of the road like any other vehicle and must be treated as equal users by all other vehicles. The Police Department actively enforces bicycle safety violations and hopes this active enforcement will raise aware to motorists and cyclists alike of their responsibilities on roadways. Whether you are biking or driving on Village streets, please keep the tips below in mind and help keep our streets safe.
| | Cyclists Safety Reminders
- Wear reflective and bright colored clothing so that motorists are able to see you.
- Cyclists must adhere to the same traffic rules and regulations as a motor vehicle, that means stopping at stop signs and yielding at yield
signs. - Do not ride in packs on interior streets. Riding in packs crowd streets and creates a safety hazard for both cyclists and motorists.
- Utilize the newly constructed bike lanes on Lake Drive, Brown Deer Road, and Pt. Washington Road.
Motorists Safety Reminders - Keep your eyes open for pedestrians walking on interior Village streets.
- Remember to yield to pedestrians attempting to cross a roadway in a marked crosswalk.
- Yield to cyclists as you would to any other vehicle as they must also adhere to the same traffic laws as you do.
- Be aware of posted speed limit signs within the Village. The speed limit on all interior Village streets is 25 mph.
