Loose leaf collection will be beginning its final round of collections the week of November 14.  The Village collects loose leaves through Thanksgiving, weather permitting.  Next week, the following sections will be collected:

  • Section 1 - Monday, November 14
  • Section 2 - Tuesday, November 15
  • Section 3 - Wednesday, November 16
  • Section 4 - Thursday, November 17
  • Section 5 - Friday, November 18

Mixed up on your collection days?  Find everything you need to know by visiting the Village's website.

Under Pressure

Is your mailbox ready for snow?  The Village will be out identifying those mailboxes that are unsturdy to prevent winter damage.  Residents are reminded that mailboxes that are damaged by the weight of removed snow are the responsibility of the homeowner to repair.

So, make sure your mailbox is winter ready by ensuring it is straight, sturdy and stable!

Save the Best for Last

Remember to bring out all of your yard waste beginning next week, November 14.  This will be the final pickup for yard waste (not loose leaves) for 2011.  Residents will still be able to bring yard waste to the drop off center on Fairy Chasm Road year round.

Make sure you know your collection days.  Find everything you need to know by visiting the Village's website.

Veteran's Day

Friday, November 11 is Veteran's Day.  Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on November 11 at Arlington Veterans day National Cemetery. The ceremony commences precisely at 11:00 am with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans' organizations and remarks from dignitaries.  Be sure to thank all Veteran's for their dedication and service on this, and every day.

Let's Get It Started

The Village Board of Trustees officially broke ground for the new consolidated north shore emergency dispatch center in a groundbreaking Groundbreaking Ceremony on Thursday, November 10.  With snow flurries in the air, work begins on the Village's new cosolidated dispatch center.

The work, which will begin on November 14,  includes an addition to the current Village Hall/Police Department building.  The northeast corner will be reconstructed to provide room for the new center, which will provide 911 dispatching services for the seven North Shore communities, as well as the North Shore Fire Department.

Thanks Les!

The Village would like to extend its great thanks and appreciation to resident Lester M. Maresh. Lester recently decided to retire after fifty-four years of public service to the Village. Lester, who has lived in the Village since 1952, has served aLes M. s Village President, on the Board of Trustees, and on the Plan Commission.

President Sam Dickman and Board of Trustees presented him with a service proclamation at the November 3 Board meeting.  We want to thank Les and wish him all the best in the future.

Winter is on the way, and before the snow hits you may be looking to clean out your home and dispose of items that you just don't have room for.  But how and where do you dispose of things like old furniture, electronics, or lawn equipment?  Visit the Dispose of page. If you have it, there is a resource on this page to help you dispose of it, whether it is through the Village or somewhere else.  Don't believe us, check it out for yourself and find out how and where you can dispose of your stuff.
