Everybody's Doing It

Be sure to head out to the polls this upcoming Tuesday, August 9.  Residents will have the opportunity to cast their ballot in this special recall election for either Senator Alberta Darling, or her challenger, Rep. Sandy Pasch.

As always, the elections will be held at Bayside Middle School, beginning at 7am and closing at 8pm.  Voters are asked to use the entrance off of Standish Place when traveling to the school.  As was the case in the primary election, voters will be asked to show photo identification when voting.  See you there!

Move Slow in Construction Zones

The Village's 2011 capital projects are currently underway.  Tennyson Drive and Standish Place intersection is currently under ctennysononstruction, with Bayside Drive and W. Ellsworth lane to follow.  Keep up to date with the most recent project timelines by visiting the Village's website

Residents are encouraged to check the Village's interactive map  to find out the areas of construction.

Coyote Get Together

On Thursday, August 11 @ 6:30pm, the Village will be hosting an informational meeting regarding the coyote population in the area.  While coyote numbers have remained relatively constant over the past few decades, residents often have questions regarding their habits and way of living.  An FAQ brochure is available for those who are interested in some of the more recent studies regarding coyotes.

During the meeting, a representative from Wisconsin DNR, as well as a professional trapper will be on hand to answer any questions.  For more information regarding coyotes in the Village of Bayside, please contact Captain Scott McConnell.

Fresh Water

Did you know, that nearly 30% of Village homes are currently serviced by municipal water, as opposed to private wells?  While the Village of Bayside does not have a water utility, it does have an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Mequon to provide water services.  Many of the homes now serviced by Mequon were once owned and serviced by We Energies, and the now defunct North Shore East Water Trust.

Municwateripal water is that which is provided by a utility, with infrastructure and water quality monitored by a professionally trained staff.  Recently, the City of Mequon released it's latest water quality report.  For more information on municipal water, feel free to contact Director of Community & Utility Services, Alex Henderson

A Watchful Eye

The Village would like to remind residents to be cognizant of their home and belongings to avoid attracting potential criminals.  In these tough economic times, some are turning to less obvious items to take in order to turn a profit.  For example, store your metal grill in the secure location after use.  Don't leave your garage door open, unoccupied for a long duration.  A few other tips to keep you and your family safe:

  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave the house or go to bed. Even if it is for a short time, lock your doors.
  • Leave lights on when you go out. If you are going tnhoodwatcho be away for a length of time, connect a few lamps to automatic timers to turn them on in the evening and off during the day.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Arrange for your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
  • Lock your car doors.

Also, remember that if you're going away for an extended period of time, you can contact the Village's Police Department to schedule vacation checks for your home.  Contact the non-emergency Police Department number (351-8800) for more information.
