Congratulations Buffy!

At Thursday night's meeting, the Village BuffyBoard of Trustees awarded Schlitz Audubon Nature Center's Elizabeth "Buffy" Cheek with a proclamation for her fourteen years of dedicated service as the Executive Director of SANC.

Buffy, who is retiring this year, has several accomplishments in her fourteen years, including the construction of the first LEED certified building in Wisconsin, creation of a nationally known nature preschool, and tripling Schlitz Audubon Nature Center's educational science classes to serve 35,000 school children annually.  Congratulations Buffy, and good luck in your future endeavors.

Open Book this Tuesday

Open Book will be held at Village Hall on Tuesday, July 12 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. During this timeframe homeowners, will be able to discuss their 2011 assessments with a representative from the Village's assessing firm, Accurate Appraisal. You can schedule an appointment for that day at www.accurateassessor.com/.

Voter Up!

Remember to stop by Bayside Middle School on Tuesday, July 12 to cast your ballot.  Residents are asked to use the Standish Place entrance when coming to vote.

There are several changes to the voting process that will take place at the upcoming election.  The new Wisconsin Voter Photo ID Law will require poll workers at the election to ask voters for an acceptable photo ID.  Should you not have a photo ID for this election you will be given informational documentation regarding the changes to the law; however you will still be able to vote.  As of the 2012 February Primary and all subsequent elections an acceptable ID will be required before receiving a ballot.  Also new at this election, all voters will be required to sign the poll book.  Should you refuse to sign the book poll workers will not be able to give you a ballot.

In person absentee voting for the July 12, 2011 Recall Election ends at 5 pm on Friday, July 8.  To date the Village has processed 102 requests for absentee ballots which is 3% of the Villages registered voters.

That Little Extra

Planning to have a party?  Expecting to have a little extra garbage or recycling for the week?  Now you can rent extra garbage or recycling containers for a one-time use.  For $25, Village crews will deliver the extra container for your special occasion.  The extra material will be taken with your regularly scheduled pickup, and the container will be collected shortly thereafter.  Simply stop into Village Hall to schedule your extra container service.
Yard Waste - Bag It

Next week, Village crews will continue yard waste collection.  Please have your yard waste out to your curb no later than 7 am yard waste on your scheduled collection date.  In an effort to improve aesthetics, we ask that residents refrain from putting debris at the street until the week of their pickup to avoid having the waste sit out for extended periods of time.  A complete collection schedule is available on the Village's website.

To ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, please keep all yard waste out of the street, and if possible, in biodegradable bags or reusable containers.  In addition to bi-weekly collection, residents can utilize the Village's yard waste drop off site, located north of Village Hall, off of Fairy Chasm Road.

Clean it, and Mean it!

The date is drawing near!  We're only a few weeks away from the Village's summer Clean Up Day.  Being held Sunday, July 24, from 9am - 3pm, the Village Hall south parking lot will once again be transformed into a one-stop shop for all your disposal needs.

The event, which is sponsored by ServiceMaster, is a great way to dispose of all your unwanted items.  Want to find out exactly what can and cannot be disposed of at the event?  Check us out, and remember that we can always use your help.  Contact Village Hall today to sign up to volunteer for an hour, a shift, or even the whole day.

Secur Shredding

In conjunction with the Village's Clean Up Days, residents will be able to drop off their secure documents at Village Hall beginning Tuesday, July 12.  The items will be stored in locked containers and securing shredded by Secur-X.  So, if you're unable to make the event, or are looking to dispose of your personal documents sooner, feel free to stop by Village Hall.  For more information, please contact Village Hall at 414-351-8811.

Restriping Continues

Summer is finally upon us, and among other things, that means construction season.  For 2011, there are several projects that will be commencing over the next several weeks (stay tuned forbike lane details).  Currently, crews have been restriping all of Brown Deer Road, Lake Drive, and the bike lanes along Port Washington Road.  Work will also include the restriping of crosswalks and thirty (30) stop bars (white lines at stop signs) in the community, including ones at the newly installed railroad crossing gates.  All of this work is expected to be completed by the end of next week.
