Tip of the Week

Did you participate in the Spring Clean-Up Day?  Take our survey and let us know your thoughts.  Your comments will help us plan future clean-up days.

Destination 650

This Week's Total: 10.55

YTD Total: 164.2

In 2010 the Village recycled 546 tons.  For 2011, we are asking residents to recycle 650 tons, which equates to 800 pounds per household and 321 pounds per resident.  By recycling 650 tons, the Village will save $31,200 in tipping fees, which is $19.20 per household.

Thought for the Week

"There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction"

North Shore Consolidated Dispatch a Reality

This week, the Shorewood Village Board unanimously approved a contract to consolidate dispatch services in Bayside.  The agreement was previously unanimously approved by governing bodies of  Glendale and Whitefish Bay.  The contract will consolidate the two north shore dispatch centers into one, located in Bayside, and service the six north shore communities of Bayside, Fox Point, River Hills, Glendale, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay for police and fire dispatch services.

It is anticipated that the expansion of the building will be completed by March 1, 2012.  The two centers have begun have begun the transition planning phase.   The six communities served by the consolidated center have begun working on staffing models, technology updates, and infrastructure improvements.

The Village is excited to partner with Glendale, Shorewood, and Whitefish Bay along with our current partners in River Hills and Fox Point to provide top quality emergency dispatch services to residents of the North Shore while realizing a substantial cost savings over the next 10 years.

Citizens Police Academy

The 3rd class of the Bayside/Fox Point/River Hills Citizens Police Academy kicks off next week, April 27.  Thirteen students have registered for the class, but there are still two spots left.  If you are interested in participating in the Citizens Academy, please call 351-8800.

Alternative Thinking for Pedestrian Safety

Did you stop for the pedestrian in the crosswalk this morning?  The Village is exploring a non-traditional way to slow traffic on Village streets through unique street signage.  The Village is hosting a contest for residents to design unique, empathetic, and thought provoking street signs.

Signs bearing slogans such as "We know your car is fast, slow down," and "You will stop for a duck, but you wont stop for a child" are some of the unique ways communities have raised awareness for pedestrian and vehicular safety.  The winning designs will be placed at crosswalks and high traffic areas throughout the Village.

All residents are encouraged and invited to participate.  Entry forms are available at Village Hall or on the Village's website.  All entries must be received by May 27 at 4:30 pm.  For more information, contact Village Hall.

Unclaimed Property

The Wisconsin State Treasurer has updated their unclaimed property list.  For a complete list visit the Wisconsin State Treasurers website.  Residents are able to search for unclaimed property by last name or business name.

Fresh Mulch

This week the Village completed mulching the yard waste that is collected throughout the year.  By mulching yard waste, the Village saves nearly $25,000 annually in disposal fees.  Mulch is available to residents for free!  Mulch can be picked up at the yard waste drop-off site, located just north of Village Hall or it can be delivered for $75 per 5 yard increment.  Stop in at Village Hall to schedule your delivery.

DEA Prescription Drug Take Back Day
