I am very pleased to announce that Alpar Architectural Products has been acquired by Pawling Corporation. You can read the announcement by clicking
here. As a follower of Alpar, I wanted to provide you with more information about how we got here and what the future brings than is available to the media.
I established Alpar to drive change in the industry. Partnering with Pawling is the best way to achieve that goal. With Pawling behind us, we will have the resources to achieve the leadership position in the wall protection market and drive the industry as a whole toward using more sustainable materials. It also means that we'll be offering an expanded line of colors and profiles.
Originally, I approached Pawling as a manufacturing partner because they have a well-established a reputation for quality, as well as the specialized machinery and equipment and in-house technical expertise to deal with the challenges of working with a new polymer compound. They started producing Alpar's deTerra® biobased polymer sheet in 2010. Based on their success in making that product, Alpar continued to shift manufacturing of other products to Pawling.
For a number of years, Pawling has been investing in developing new materials that would not just be an alternative to PVC, but that would be a significant improvement in terms of sustainability over other alternatives like ABS or PETG. deTerra® biobased polymer, for which Alpar held the exclusive license in the construction industry, was a perfect solution.
The acquisition was a natural progression of the relationship between our two companies. The more we worked together, the more it made sense for Alpar to become part of the Pawling family of companies.
Alpar will continue to operate in Minnesota, but will be better able to support our customers as some administrative and operational activities are shifted to our parent company. Most products will ship directly from Pawling's manufacturing facility in Wassiac, NY. I will continue on as president of Alpar. The difference is that now I can leverage the operational infrastructure of a much larger company so that I can focus on more strategic issues. I'll also have more time to do what I'm passionate about - educating the industry on issues related to sustainability and the human and environmental effects of the products we use in buildings.
I look forward to continuing to provide you with news and technical articles and appreciate your continued support.
Sincerely,
Lisa Britton, CSI, CCPR, LEED AP BD+C
