Caren photoHello Friends,

It's the week to focus on Peace and, ironically, I've noticed that as soon as I choose to focus on feeling peace, all sorts of things come into my awareness that I'm not feeling particularly peaceful about! The universe sure has a sense of humor!

I love this tradition because it helps me stay focused and keep my sense of humor so I can make the choices that feed my soul the peace it treasures.

But, enough about me, let's talk about what this informative, and easy to read, newsletter has for you!
  • Options for displaying your Activity Cards
  • Ways to "Close" the tradition to add variety and fun
  • What to say as you snuff out those candles
  • A resource to help you choose a charity
  • An Activity Card for those of you who do/give too much!
  • How to access past issues of this newsletter
  • PLUS An exciting ONE WEEK ONLY ~ SPECIAL OFFER ~ to help you with your gift giving!  See details below.

Each year I look forward to doing, "Advent", as we call it in my home. And each year I marvel anew at how a few, short, simple moments each day have the power to transform my season as they fill my soul with warmth and meaning.

I hope you are finding the same in your home.

Hugs and Blessings,
Caren

Ideas You Can Use NOW!

Try something different to Close... Instead of closing with a prayer or round of gratitude, try one of these ideas to shift things up:g'ma mom and daughter singing
  • Sing a song - for extra fun go around the circle and have each person sing one word of the song.
  • Share a word that describes how you feel about Christmas.
  • Name your favorite Christmas cookie or carol.
  • Rhyme the word. Go around the circle finding rhymes for a holiday word or the candle of the week or your favorite food or ...Little girl writing

Whose turn is it?  Have your kids make up a simple chart with columns for the five steps: LIGHT, READ, OPEN, CLOSE, SNUFFLE and rows for the twenty-five days of December and fill in their names. That will end any squabbling over whose turn it is!

What to say when snuffling the candles.
  • snuffling the candle Although I snuffle this candle for Peace, we know the Peace never goes away because we carry the Peace within us.
  • As I extinguish this candle for Hope, we know the Hope never goes out because we are the Hope.
  • or some version thereof...

Do you Give & Do too much for others?

Consider this option for one of your blank Activity Cards:

  • Today I will give myself the gift of saying, "No."

I will say it gently but firmly. When guilt raises it's pernicious little head I will circumvent it with this gentle and firm affirmation:

oxygen mask

"Today I am putting on my oxygen mask. For the next 24 hours I am taking care of my needs. The world will not end if I am not available for 24 hours. If I don't put my mask on first, I will be of no use to others.  I am taking care of "me" today so I can give again tomorrow."

Looking for a Charity?

If you want to give to a charity this year but are concerned about finding one that meets your criteria, check out Charity Navigator

Karen from Virginia sent this gem to us. She writes:

This site allows you to search for charities by category or name. They also provide information about that charity's effectiveness (as in how much of your dollar goes to administration of the charity and how much actually goes to its cause). They provide tons of information including, of course, each charity's website.   Thank you, Karen!
