Dear Friends,
How is the Advent Tradition working out in your home?
In our house, believe it or not, the first week is always a period of adjusting and remembering to do the Tradition! Someone, usually my husband, will start off to bed and suddenly it's, "Wait, we have to do Advent!" After the first few nights we settle back into the groove and enjoy having the structure of the Advent Tradition to bring us together for a few moments of connection at the end of the day.
This year, the best part has been knowing how many of you are also lighting candles for Hope and bringing this tradition into your homes! My deepest hope is that it will enrich your experience of the holidays as much as it has ours!
I received quite a few emails this week and I wanted to share this one as it is so true to life!
... tonight there is a football game on (Civil War) and there was a little chaos and grumpies when it was time to sit down to light our candle. We sort of grumped through the lighting and were a bit sarcastic about what goal needs more hope and then, we pulled the "I appreciate you" card and the entire family came away feeling so much better, reminded of how much we love each other and how much we depend on one another. It changed the whole tone of the evening, maybe the season!
My hope is that all of us will experience this same sense of connection and love as we journey through the grumpies of real life. Gently but surely, this is what will shift the focus of the Christmas Season away from "the stress and the stuff" to what really matters.

An Idea for Christmas Eve or ... Use a blank card to write: "My wish for you...." The
activity: Go around the circle and have each person tell each
person present what they wish for them. For example, "John, my wish
for you is that you find a job you enjoy that pays well." "Ella, my wish for you is that you believe you are beautiful." It's simple and
meaningful! |
Grandparents!
 Invite
your grandchild(ren) over and have them participate in doing the Tradition with you! Kids love candles and talking about the reading! Put an activity in the bag that
you know they will enjoy: A Story to Share, Decorate a Gingerbread House, Make Christmas Cookies or Drop a Dollar. They will love it!
