Haven Hills

Haven Hills provides safety and support to victims of domestic violence while working to break the cycle of abuse.

We offer shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and activities supporting increased economic opportunity to victims primarily in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles.

We endeavor to increase community awareness about domestic violence issues and bring about societal change through education and public policy advocacy.

Haven Hills was founded in 1978 by the Canoga Park Women's Club who realized there were no services for victims of domestic violence in our community.

What started with a crisis line operating a few hours a week has grown into a multi-service agency assisting thousands of victims each year.

Programs and services include:

·        Crisis Line - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The Crisis Line receives over 13,000 calls a year

·        Crisis Shelter - Providing safety in a 30-day program with individual, children's and family counseling.

·        Shelter School - K-12 education for children living in the shelter. Haven Hills is the only shelter in the county with a school on site.

·        Haven Two - 18- month transitional housing and employment program including workshops and  counseling

·        Counseling Clinic - free group counseling (including Spanish speaking) for women not living in our shelters

Ten Commandments of Promoting your Website. By Jamshid Javidi

The following steps are equally important and they are not in any specific orders. For the best result all of them should be considered and applied simultaneously.

1-    Have your website address on all your advertising and documents (Ads, letterheads, business cards, brochures, bus bench, etc.)

2-    A good domain name is easier to remember than a phone number. Make sure your domain name is easy, similar to your existing name and relevant to what you do.

3-     Make sure the website content is fresh and refreshing. Remember content is king and the visitor is the queen. Also, the website or your content is focusing on the visitors interests.

4-    Make sure visitors can find what they want quickly and painlessly. Especially how they can contact you.

5-    Make sure you have a link to your website and a synopsis of what you do in all your emails.

6-    If possible, ask others in your industry to have a link to your website and vice versa.

7-    Purchase more domain names and point them to your main Website.

8-    Offer a newsletter or guest book on your site and collect email addresses for your marketing campaigns.

9-    Ask friends or clients to critique your website and promote your website by emailing your website address or a page of it to others. This is called viral marketing or buzz marketing (the internet version of "word of mouth.")

10- Check the stats on your site. Find out what pages are visited most and try to apply the same principles to other pages.

11-Compare your site to your competitors on a regular basis. Are they more focused than you are? Do they offer something that you do not? Would you buy from them or use their services?

Always check your Meta tags (the information and keywords in the header of your website) and resubmit your site to the Search engines. There are services (such as Google, Msn, Yahoo, etc.) that sponsor your site and charge you for sponsorship or click-through. They are worth checking into.

Check for broken links on a regular basis

Call for action is part of your main page and every other page.

Q.  I need to cite a source for material I am publishing - how can I do this?
A.  Go to www.citationmachine.net - an interactive tool designed to output the proper MLA or APA citation format your provide in outline format.
