"I had two missions to accomplish while working with Carrie - to drastically improve finances and to have romantic love in my life. Though Carrie is not a matchmaker, she did help me see the difference between being open as a person and open to romantic love. Carrie is very clever with business and marketing techniques which were my total weakness. Her support empowered me and now I know I can get where I want to go and make my dreams come true. I haven't had to think about how I am going to pay my bills for  the past 3 months and I have an amazing man in my life! Both missions were accomplished in 6 months. Maha love to Carrie!"

Unplug
Technology Overload
24 hour connection
Are you connected 24/7 to your blackberry, cell phone or laptop? Stop for a minute and think about not having your cell phone with you for the whole day. How does your body feel when you think about that?

I never considered myself a technology addict. I thought, "I can unplug whenever I want to, I just don't want to". Well, on a recent trip to the Bahamas I couldn't justify the out of country charges to stay plugged into technology. So I made the decision to unplug for 3 days. My first thoughts about this brought immediate panic and my heart started beating faster. I actually could not believe I was having anxiety about disconnecting from technology. Once I got past my initial reaction I decided to use it as an opportunity to see how I felt and what the benefits were from a little unplugging.

I can say very simply that it was GREAT! Did I miss it? Yeah. Did I log on as soon as I could without the sur charges? Yeah. But not having my cell with me for a short period of time and no access to e-mail, facebook, texting, tweeting was a gift. A gift to get into full relaxation mode. Funny how we forget what life was like before so much technology.

Here are a few other gifts when unplugging from technology:
  • Being fully present in the moment.
  • Stress level is reduced by knowing there is nothing you need to respond to right now.
  • Opportunity to reconnect with YOU and fully enjoy doing something just for you.
  • Patience level increases.
  • Conversations aren't interrupted by a text.
  • An overall sense of calmness.
Technology is connecting us all the time and often needed for business these days. Cleanse/Detox

Have you always wondered about doing a detox or a cleanse for your body? Coinciding a cleanse/detox with the change of seasons is typically a good time to do one. It has a natural rhythm to it.

Why would anyone want to do a detox program and what are the benefits?

Since we are living in a world with so many toxins a detox/cleanse that gives our bodies nourishing, cleansing foods and a break from processed foods can help our body rid itself of toxic build up. This can often result in:
  • more energy
  • better focus
  • improved immune system
  • reduced cravings
  • better digestion

If you want to give your body a break you can easily do that by committing to a period of time to eliminate all processed foods and eat only whole foods. You can do this completely on your own. However, my experience has always been that I need a guide or a program to follow as I find that more motivating and just plain easier to do.

The number of days can vary and I have done 1 - 21 days and found all to have some benefit. So think about it this fall and consider doing one on your own or check out my Holistic Health Coach friend, Michelle Pfennighaus's 21 Day Detox Program. It is a guided group program that can be done live or virtual.

Whatever you decide I encourage you to at least try 1 day of no processed foods and then listen to your body and see how it feels.

Kale Chips
Getting enough greens in our diet is not always easy to do. They are often the most missed in our daily meals. Kale is probably something you have heard of, but many aren't sure what to do with it. This recipe is easy and delicious. Everyone I have shared this recipe with has surprising liked it. . . even kids. So give it a try.

on the way to the oven
Kale Chips
Ingredients:
1 bunch of Kale
2 T. of olive or sesame oil
1-2T of sesame seeds
Sea salt - to taste

Rinse and dry the Kale. Remove stems and tear or cut the Kale into 2" pieces. A little larger than bite size. In a mixing bowl, add Kale, olive oil, sesame seeds and sea salt. Mix with your hands so that all the leaves are coated with olive oil. Place on a cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes and then flip the kale and bake for 3-7 minutes depending on how crispy you want them. Ideally they should be crispy so that they have a crunch when you eat them. So good!! Try them out.
