Movin' Your Body
Physical Activity

Are you one that loves to work out or dreads just thinking about it? If the word exercise creates a negative feeling inside you, why not change it to movin' your body or physical activity. Find a word that is more appealing and less negative when you think about working out. This will create a more positive response when you hear the words and motivate you to get your body moving!
We all know how important exercise is for our bodies, yet so many of us aren't giving our bodies the opportunity to move. I read this quote recently by Gene Tunney and thought how true, "Exercise should be regarded as tribute to the heart." Think about our heart beating every second to keep us alive and how a little movement with our body would give it some love and appreciation and keep the blood flowing easier.
When it comes to exercise for me, I need to change things up every now and then. Thanks to a gift from a friend, of Physique 57 DVD's, I have a new attitude when setting the alarm for that early morning hour to work out. Whether you go to a gym or exercise at home the most important part is to "Just Do It" - Nike.
Here are a few "movin' my body" programs or exercises that I have tried and you can explore. I have included some links so you can check them out:
Here are a few other ideas that are even easier to add into your life:
- Walking - take a family walk or walk the dog
- Biking - you learned it as a child, but your body never forgets how to do it
- Yard work - this is great exercise for your body - go out and pull some weeds
- TV - most cable companies have FREE "on demand" features that include workout programs, check them out
If you are saying, "I don't have time" then you need to change how your thinking and make the time. It is rare that extra time will just pop up and you will think, "hey I'm going to exercise" so add it to your calendar, get a buddy or make it a family activity.
Karen Session stated, "A lack of exercise robs the body of an essential ingredient" so walk, bike, do yard work or find a fun class or dvd and get your body movin'! |
Gratitude for Food
Jamie Oliver - Food Revolution
If you haven't heard the buzz about Jamie Oliver's show called Food Revolution on ABC, then let me give you a brief overview and encourage you to check it out online as the season finale was in late April. It was a thought-provoking and inspiring reality show stirring up lots of conversations about the food we eat.
Jamie wants to help America realize that the processed foods that we are eating at work, home and schools are a contributing factor as to why this generation of children are not expected to live as long as their parents.
Although the show features Huntington, West Virgina it really is something that is happening all over our country - high statistics of obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
The show has sparked a huge amount of conversation regarding the school lunches for our children. He showcased how you can actually have real food for kids at school and they will eat it. PLEASE sign the petition to get better school lunches for our kids. It is going to take all of our effort to get real change with school lunches. Click the picture above or HERE to sign the petition.
The show was inspiring. In fact, after one of the episodes my seven year old daughter decided she wanted to cook dinner and she did with a little guidance from dad. She made a beef-stir fry that was featured on the show and ate it without hesitation. Jamie showed how easy it is to cook real food, how fun it can be and really how necessary it is for all of us to start cooking again. Check out your labels sometime and see if you can actually read the ingredients and if most of it sounds like a chemistry set then put it aside and choose something more nourishing with ingredients you can pronounce.
Jamie states, "The time is right for people to rediscover the sense of pride, satisfaction and fun you can get from cooking for the people you love." If you don't have time to check out the episodes of The Food Revolution you can learn more by going to Jamie Oliver's website. |
