Video 'Appearances'

You might remember that the DVD portion of the complete curriculum will feature several visiting guests representing a variety of cultures which will be one of the more distinguishing features of the First Note program.

 Gothard Sisters

CMF is fortunate to have access to such a deep pool of local talent including the Gothard Sisters (above) with their guitar, fiddle, and drum playing along with their singing and championship Irish dancing. We also have the Eriam Sisters (below) who's family originates from Eritrea in NE Africa. In addition to being finalists on "America's Got Talent," they have just released a new song that is climbing the charts!

Eriam Sisters 2

Both The Gothard Sisters and Eriam Sisters will be performing at a private CMF 'friend-raiser' later this month.

Now we have to find some boys to balance things out!

Written Curriculum Complete!

Thanks to our First Note Curriculum Team, all 30 lessons for the year 1 program are complete.  Now we're developing the video portion that will accompany the lessons. A challenge we'll face in order to keep the curriculum engaging is described well by Jim Margraff.

Arturo and Music FriendsSeven Seconds

For Jim Marggraff and his colleagues at toy maker LeapFrog, seven quick ticks on a stopwatch is all the time they have to win over the world's most discerning consumers: toddlers, grade-schoolers, and tweeners. It took years of watching kids interact with prototypical toys to yield Marggraff's Seven-Second Rule, which is scrawled across a whiteboard in his office: "If the product's art and audio fail to engage the user within 7 seconds, the user will never engage."

As for adults, research shows that your attention span is only 20 seconds, not a whole lot better...;)

CMF Holding Auditions May 17 and 19

We are currently looking for children to audition for the Music Friends segment that will take place in Kirkland, WA on May 17th and 19th. These children will be part of the First Note lessons and will also make a music CD for our classrooms to use with the program.

If
you have an interest in hearing more or having your child participate in the video auditions, please email Paulette Evans at paulette@cmfinc.org.

Board Retreat a Success!

On April 16th, the CMF Board of Directors held a retreat, where Director Lisa Fitzhugh, co-founder of Creative Ground, facilitated a 3-hour session that brought us closer to defining the "Theory of Change" that CMF was created to accomplish. More on this later.
