"During the first eight years of life children develop foundational brain structures and early learning skills upon which all future learning will be built"
As many of you are already aware, The Children's Music Foundation was launched earlier this month. The primary purpose of the organization is to provide an affordable opportunity to schools so that all Kindergartners and First Graders can experience music in their classrooms. The program is being developed to meet both national and state standards, and be designed in such a way that all teachers can easily use it and have fun at the same time!
Music and the arts tend to be at high risk during times of school budget cuts. This is all happening at a time when our kids need these programs more than ever. I'll keep you up to date with this monthly newsletter.
We've assembled the founding members of our Board of Directors along with an advisory board (www.cmfinc.org) that will play an important role developing the First Note music curriculum. We are really excited about this program!
Sincerely,
Rourke OBrien The Children's Music Foundation, Inc.
Music Standards
Developed by the Consortium of National Arts Education Associations (under the guidance of the National Committee for Standards in the Arts), the National Standards for Arts Education has been established which outlines basic arts learning outcomes integral to the comprehensive K-12 education of every American student. The Consortium published the National Standards in 1994 through a grant administered by MENC, the National Association for Music Education(http://artsedge.kennedy-center.org/).
The First Note pilot will follow the guidelines established for music and be mapped to both National and WA state standards.
