Greetings!

February proved to be yet another busy month for us at PARL.  We experienced a steady stream of animals coming through our front doors. This isn't anything out of the ordinary for a shelter that doesn't turn animals away. However, we did notice that adoptions were a bit lower than normal. The shelter was packed with great animals looking for a second chance. So, where were the adopters?  Maybe it was the bad weather that was forcing people into hibernation and keeping them from visiting.  We decided to turn to our community for help. Thanks to our friends in the media people got the message. The call for help was answered. The shelter was packed with visitors and adoptions skyrocketed.  Thank you for the show of compassion and support. Together we can make a difference in improving the lives of companion animals. What are some of the ways that you can help?

· Become a foster home. PARL's foster program is looking for some new recruits. There are several opportunities in March to learn more about this vital program.

· Eat at Chelo's! Enjoy a good meal and support PARL all at once. Be sure to follow the link and print your Chelo's Charity Night coupon.

· Spay or Neuter your feline friend. Do your part to help the overwhelming number of homeless cats. PARL's Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) makes it easy and cost-effective.

· Join the PARL team as a Member!

These are but a few ways you can help. Be sure to visit us on Facebook and at parl.com often for more information. Thanks for supporting PARL and advocating for animals.

Amazing Adoption Weekend
thanks to local media exposure

Bear was one of the many fortunate animals who found a forever home!
On Friday, February 18, 2011, PARL sent out a press release to bring attention to the amount of animals that were at the shelter. We were bursting at the seams with surrenders while our adoption numbers were dismally low. Our plea was answered and the Providence Journal, WPRI Channel 12 and Channel 10 all ran segments for us on Saturday. We are thrilled to say that thirty-three animals found new homes this weekend because of the exposure given to us...more

Help Us Help Our Community
plea for pet food pantry items

Times are tough for many families in Rhode Island. Many have been hit hard with layoffs, pay cuts and even forclosures. Some are having a difficult time feeding their pets. These families do not want to give up their pets but find they have no choice if they cannot provide for their pets during difficult times.

That's why PARL has a Community Pet Food Pantry and is a key program in our surrender prevention initiative for 2011. We are trying to do our part in keeping families and their pets together.  If we are able to deter even one person from giving up their pet because they are having difficulty feeding it, then we have done our job.

But we need your help. Our pantry is filled with 100% donations and supplies are low. We are asking you, our supporters, if you can donate to the pantry. We are in need of canned or dry food for cat, dogs or small animals. Every little bit helps and will be sincerely appreciated. Donations can be dropped off daily at the shelter on 34 Elbow Street.
Open Your Heart & Home to a Needy Animal
foster parents wanted

Foster Care volunteers provide in-home care to newborns, special needs animals, or animals that are not thriving in the shelter environment. By opening your home to these animals, you will play a crucial role in providing them with the care and compassion needed to help place them into forever loving homes. Fostering saves lives and these caregivers provide an invaluable service to our shelter and to the animals! There are three orientations scheduled for March...more
