Any shutterbugs out there? We would sure appreciate a a donation of any digital cameras or digital video cameras! They are useful for a variety of reasons from showcasing our adoptable animals on the website to documenting community events. Gently used is fine by us and would be much appreciated! Greetings!
A brand new year brings on a feeling of reflection and renewal in all of us and my mind has turned to some childhood dreams that I want to share with you. When I was a kid I was an avid fan of The Jetsons and fully expected that I would have had a robot maid, a jetpack and a flying car by 1999 (at the latest). Yet here we are in 2011 and to my dismay I have none of these, nor is there any on the horizon as far as I can tell. That aside, I remember how exciting it was to dream about what the future may bring and as the new Executive Director of the Providence Animal Rescue League I have that same feeling of excitement.
In the coming months we will be embarking upon a campaign that aims to improve the lives of animals both in the shelter and in the community. I will be challenging my staff and volunteers to think of new and innovative ways to care for and meet the needs of animals. I will also be calling upon YOU, PARL's community, to voice your opinions and offer your support. Everyone in our community should have a voice concerning the welfare of our community's animals and I am here to tell you that here at PARL we will be listening.
The official launch of this campaign is a few months away so we will keep you updated through our website, www.parl.org and future e-newsletters. Another way to stay informed is to become a member of PARL. This month, we are launching a new PARL membership program and have included a preview of the program in this newsletter.
I guess I will have to accept the fact that I will never fly across the skies of Rhode Island in a Jetpack; not every childhood dream can come true. But the reality of the future of PARL is that we can make some dreams come true. By working together on common goals for the animals we can make a difference. Please join us as a partner and an advocate for the animals of our community.
Sincerely,
Carmine DiCenso
Executive Director

PARL Has New Wheels!
maybe you've seen us drive-by?
Keep a look out in your community for the new PARL Transit! Thanks to a generous grant from the Champlin Foundations, PARL has been afforded the opportunity to purchase a 2010 Ford Transit. We are now able to transport animals for adoption events, visit schools for humane education and so much more.
The eye-catching design was created (and donated) by the Providence based design and marketing firm, Studio 1011. You may remember reading about them last January since they are also the designers of our new website www.parl.org. "All of us at Studio 1011 are long term proponents of animal welfare. Our relationship with PARL has been a rewarding one in that our services lend a helping hand to the benefit of the animals and we also get to work with wonderful people who understand the value of marketing and design. It is an honor to be associated with an organization such as the Providence Animal Rescue League." says Studio 1011.
With an incredible "vehicle wrap" from Graphic Innovations (along with a much appreciated discount on services) the PARL Transit can't be missed! Our new vehicle gives us more than just great wheels, we can now proudly advertise throughout our community that "Love IS Adoptable at 34 Elbow St."

Home 4 the Holidays
119 reasons to smile
During the month of December, 119 cats, dogs and small animals were adopted! Twelve of these animals were part of our Home 4 the Holidays promotion which brought attention to our long time residents and offered an adoption fee reduction. One of the benefactors of this promotion was Sushi, a staff favorite who had been at PARL for 221 days! Thanks so much to all of our new adopters and we hope to get updates on your new members of your families!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual open house on December 11th at PARL. It is always a highlight of our year to see so many pet lovers come together for pet photos with Santa, holiday shopping and of course, adoptions! Pictured here is Rick (formerly known as Jethro) with one of our best Santas to-date, Joe! We are thankful for all of our volunteers who greeted our visitors, assisted with adoptions and manned our gift giving tables. The day was a great success and we look forward to next year! |
