What to do when you find a stray animal
PARL is here to help

It is likely that at some point we have all come across a dog or a cat roaming the streets alone. When this happens it is safe to assume that most people are not sure what to do. Is it best to just ignore them? Should you take the animal into your home? Who do you call? The following information will help lead you in the right direction... more

Meet Our Staff!
Say hello to Jess

Jess Fields is one of PARL's Customer Service Representatives. Say hello to her at the front desk next time you are visiting the shelter!

Jess grew up in California and moved to the steel city of Pittsburgh to study film before settling in lovely Providence, RI. While she loves animals of all kinds, she grew up with Border Collies and Aussies and considers herself--above all--a dog gal.

She loves to talk to animals, scratching them behind their ears and hearing them snore when they take a nap. In her free time she works as an artist mentor at New Urban Arts, and also makes art of her own.

She loves doing pet portraits and taking dogs for long walks. She ran her first half marathon this year and plans to keep on running, even through the winter. She hopes one day to visit Best Friends Animal Society in Utah, and is interested in animal behavior. If she could, she'd buy every dog a big couch to stretch out on.

Here at PARL, our staff is more than just employees. They are talented people who are passionate about providing compassionate care for all the animals that enter our doors each year. Visit PARL Staff Page on the website to meet the whole crew.

Happy Tails at PARL
Spot's Story

Spot while he was at PARL
This month's Happy Tail is the story of Spot.  Spot came to PARL at the beginning of August, along with his 3 littermates, from an overcrowded shelter in Indiana.  At 6 months old, they obviously hadn't experienced too much human socialization, but all four were as sweet as could be.  The weeks went by and Spot's brothers and sisters were quickly adopted into new loving households.  Spot was the last of the litter, and certainly the most shy.  He would press himself to the back of his kennel when anyone would walk by and try to say hello to him...
