August's Wish List Item

Keeping animals happy in the shelter is one of the highest priorities for PARL. We know the days in the shelter can be long so that is why PARL staff is always thinking of innovative ways to keep our animals minds occupied with puzzles and games. Something as simple as freezing a bowl of water filled with treats, carrots, and peanut butter can keep a shelter dog entertained for hours. Help us help our cats, dogs, rabbits and critters  by donating items for our enrichment programs... more

Thinking outside the "litterbox"
Home Sweet Home...almost!

It all started with a cat named Tiger.... Tiger was a large orange cat who was constantly overlooked by shelter visitors due to the large number of cats staying with us. The staff and volunteers knew that Tiger was one of the sweetest and most affectionate cat on the adoption floor! Then it hit us...what if we made Tiger readily available for any and all shelter visitors to visit with outside of his cage? Great idea....but how do we do that?... more
Abby's Story
Featured "Betsy's Fund" pet

Abby & Betsy
Abby is a chihuahua that was brought to PARL in June of 2010. She was about eight weeks old and not much more than a pound. She was the only pup born to her mom and her owners feared for her health and well being. She was severely dehydrated and extremely lethargic. After weeks of around the clock care from PARL staff (receiving fluids, being hand-fed, etc.) Abby has gained weight, is eating on her own and has developed quite the personality!...

Say Hello to Austin!

Austin is looking for love!

Austin is 1 year old male lab mix with a big, wide smile that was transferred to PARL from an over-crowded shelter in Indiana. We're looking for a dog-experienced home with someone who is willing to work with him on obedience training. He will also do best in a home where he is the star of the party and gets all the attention, so no other dogs, please!... more
