April WREN Feature is Posted
Why Doesn't the United States Have an Energy Policy to Create Jobs and Protect the Environment?

A year after the Gulf Coast oil spill, with radioactive water spilling into the ocean off Japan and tales of woe from Pennsylvanians who believe their water supply has been affected by Marcellus shale gas drilling, the energy-water nexus grows stronger and stronger.  So too does the opportunity to educate local communities about how to protect essential water resources in the midst of rapid change. With that in mind, the WREN Feature this month is Larry Schweiger's editorial from National Wildife magazine.

WREN's SourcewaterPA website goes live

SourcewaterPAWREN has launched a new Source Water Protection website to help protect the untreated "raw" water from lakes, rivers, streams, springs, and aquifers that we depend on to provide public drinking water in the Commonwealth.  The goal of the  www.sourcewaterpa.org   web site is to make source water protection information accessible and to encourage water suppliers, public water users, government officials, planners, and conservation groups  to incorporate protection of water supply areas into their planning processes.   You can also learn about the common sense ways water systems and communities across Pennsylvania are working together with residents to safeguard groundwater and surface water sources from contamination from everyday activities to protect public health.  SourcewaterPA offers communities and water suppliers solutions to protect drinking water in all its forms: underground and in lakes, rivers and streams to give an extra margin of safety to water coming out of the tap.  Start today to head off pollution problems.

Delaware Basin Drinking Water Forum

The Basin wide forum at six locations on March 10 came off with only a few hitches - including threats of flooding in the Upper Basin that limited  some attendance.  The recorded proceedings are now available on-line at http://www.delawarebasindrinkingwater.org/view-recorded-proceedings/ .   A final wrap-up will be posted on the site soon.
Take a Google flight over the Delaware Basin and learn about the unique characteristics of this basin.
