Department's Green City - Clean Water Plan will use innovative "green
infrastructure" to better manage stormwater through a comprehensive,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Small Grants Can Yield Big Results WREN was able to provide Opportunity Grants for both Source Water Education and for Watershed Education this year. See some examples of what can be done with $300 or less: Swarthmore Rutledge School set up a rain barrel display and developed a rain barrel brochure; Montgomery Co Conservation District printed three great posters on sustainable stormwater practices; Monroe County Conservation District bought beads for kids' water cycle water bracelets; Westmoreland County Cleanways updated their display and linked stream cleanups to drinking water protection. EPA Region III and VISTA developed a carnival wheel game with questions and facts about non-point source pollution. Although WREN does not have funding for Opportunity Grants right now, we hope to have funding in the spring. Keep WREN in mind when you think of a small project you'd like to accomplish.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SRBC Seeks Partners For Proposed Real-time Water Quality Monitoring
The Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) proposes to start a water quality monitoring network that will constantly record water quality conditions of smaller rivers and streams located in northern tier Pennsylvania and southern tier New York. The Commission is seeking partners to further the effort which is targeted to Marcellus shale gas areas. The monitoring network would allow state and federal water management officials and others to receive the real-time data electronically. Public water suppliers, local watershed groups and communities would also benefit from the data. Read more ...
