Greetings!

Please see the important message below from the Rhode Island Scholarship Alliance.

Administrators, faculty, parents and staff have been asked to take a moment to write to the new Governor telling him how important the Scholarship Tax Credit is to the parents of school-age children here in Rhode Island.  Please remember that there is at least one scholarship tax credit recipient in St. Peter School.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Joan Sickinger

Principal, St. Peter School

Call To Action

Dear Friends of the Rhode Island Scholarship Alliance:

Being able to attend a school of one's choosing is something that all of us value.  We believe that parents know the best educational environment for their children, and we will continue to fight for this goal.

As you know, Governor Chafee took office this month, marking the first time since the Corporate Scholarship Tax Credit Program (CSTCP) was approved that we have a new Governor in the state.  During his term in office, Governor Carcieri had been a staunch supporter of RISA, fending off calls to eliminate the CSTCP, and going as far as to propose an increase in the cap last year.

In the past, we have asked you contact the Governor and members of the General Assembly, letting them know that choices in educational environment are important to you as a parent, teacher, concerned citizen - and voter.  Now more than ever, we need your help - we need you to contact Governor Chafee and let him know that this program is of the utmost importance to you and your family.

Make no mistake about it - there will be strong opposition, as we have previously seen, to the continuation of this important program that allows hundreds of Rhode Island students to have the opportunity each year to pursue academic  success in the school setting their family feels is best for them.  And this year, the opposition will be more vocal - and powerful - than ever.

In our 2010 "Gubernatorial Candidate School Choice Survey (the results of which we sent you prior to the election in November), Lincoln Chafee said he would support the continuation of the Corporate Scholarship Tax Credit Program if elected.  We need to remind him of how crucial this program is to students, families, and schools.  Please take TWO MINUTES and send him the following message (if you like, personalize to share your thoughts on this issue!)

There has never been a more crucial time to act than now.  Thank you for your continued support and action on behalf of the Rhode Island Scholarship Advocates - and the students who are thriving from the Corporate Scholarship Tax Credit Program!

Sincerely,

The Rhode Island Scholarship Advocates
