Kindergarten | |
I am sure that you have already heard that we have a special visitor in our classroom. The Kindergarten class has been specially chosen by Santa Claus to have an Elf on the Shelf! Each night he reports to Saint Nick himself as to how the children have been behaving throughout the day. Each morning, he returns to a different spot in the room. The children cannot wait to see where he will be! They know that it is just as important to follow the rules and make the right choices at school, just like at home, because Santa has eyes everywhere! We are happy to report that his name is Buddy!
We have also begun to get into the spirit by setting up our mini Christmas tree and decorating the classroom with Christmas scenes drawn by the students. For our classroom tree, we have made coffee filter snowflakes that were painted with red, green, blue and yellow ice cubes! Pretty cool!
Christmas Fun Day is on Friday, December 17th. On that morning, please be sure to send your child in with small bills, a bag to carry gifts (labeled with his/her name), gift tag labels, and a list of who to buy for/what to buy/how much to spend on each thing. This makes it easier for the students, teachers and their 8th grade buddies who will be helping them that day!
Mrs. Jarvis and I wish you all the best during this holiday season... HoHoHo!! |

First Grade | | |
It's beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas in grade one. The children are learning the meaning of Advent. They understand It is a time of waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity. Thanks to all the parents for sharing their special stories with us. The kids love hearing the stories of when they were babies and what it was like for their parents to wait! The biggest reaction comes from seeing the baby pictures of their classmates. Thank you for the positive feedback on this special project.
Mrs. Shatakhtsian asked that you PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THE SANTA HATS FOR THE CONCERT!
The kids in Grades 1-4 will celebrate on the 22nd of December with a Polar Express party. They can wear their pajamas to school. There will be a movie and hot cocoa served.
Mrs. Myerson from the Warwick School System came and taught us about Hanukkah. She read a story, made us homemade latkes and applesauce and explained the Dreidel. It was fun learning about a different religion.
Each month we are studying different personality traits. In November we focused on loyalty. We have explained that loyalty means to be true to yourself and those who rely on you. In December we are practicing self control. We believe that words {written and spoken} have so much power and that by learning how to control them the students will gain an extremely powerful life skill .
Have a Blessed Christmas! |

Second Grade | | |
In Second Grade, we have also been learning about and celebrating the season of Advent. We talked about how hard it can be to wait but thought of many wonderful things that we can do to prepare ourselves for Christmas. Each week our Prayer Leader adds a new Candle to our Advent Wreath in our Advent Corner. He or she also leads the class in a daily Advent prayer and "Stay Awake." This song helps us to learn about the season and wake up in the morning! Ask your child to teach you this song!
We are looking forward to a busy couple of weeks this month including: the school Christmas Concert, Caroling on Monday, preparing ourselves for cursive writing, Fun Day, finishing our read aloud book, a new twist on Christmas Around the World, festive art projects and the Polar Express Party!
Amid all the excitement, please help your child stay on track with their homework assignments. Each day, the students copy the homework that they have from my chart on the board. I then check what they have and sign the book if it is correct. It is important that the students check this page to be sure that they complete the correct assignment (for example side B instead of A) and do not miss anything. Many students are not completing the reading work, which includes writing the book they read and how long they read in the calendar page of their agendas. This counts as one homework grade per month.
Stay Awake... Be Ready... The Lord is Coming Soon! |
